Alright, i know i have someone trying to acess my account from another I.P.

Over the passed 2 days i've been getting Temp. Banned when i try for the first time to log in. I appealed the first one, and it was taken off.

Ysterday i logged onto my account RaifudoMakashi, once i got off to go eat dinner, and try coming back on (my computer has auto-pass save) i attempted to log in, then it gave me this:


You fall under a ban currently in place on this website:
Automatic System Ban: Too many failed login attempts.
This ban will be removed after Dec 18, 2008.

The ban was issued by System.
If you wish, you may appeal your ban with the petition link.

It's annoying me, is there some type of way we can only make an Temp. IP Ban rather then all of them?

Because getting passwords wrong isn't so much as considered a crime, if you get a test question wrong, and they regive it to you lets say another 5 times, and you just don't get it...they're not going to punish you, instead they are just going to try to help you at getting better.

So why not just use that on SL?

Not trying to punish us by getting rid of us for 2+ days and instead just remove the IP, who knows if someone else is trying log in from another IP to someone elses account...?

Suppose the offender has access to different computers at different places, he/she could still try to guess your password. The current way is much safer though it is probably more stressful.

Like i stated, an IP ban rather than a charcter ban.

It seems very aggrivating and unfair that we are punished for making such minor decisions.

True enough, but they cannot guess it if we make it the best we can, don't you think it is our faults if we make insecure passwords?

I myself, my new password is about 18-24 charcters long.

The reason i'm saying the charecters is because it doesn't really matter, the chance of someone getting it is VERY low.

Not only that but i tend to change my password very frequently.

All the same, our passwords should of course be difficult to guess in order to avoid being hacked.

Once again using a test metaphor:

If you are taking a test, and everyone has the same test, you would do your best to secure your surroundings in order to prevent from anyone to stealing your tests. Correct?

Now if you want to use the: "I want them to see my answers"

Well it'll simply refer to someone sharing an account.

I apologize if these test metaphors are annoying, but it's finals week and i'm subjected to taking very grueing tests.

Ok, I will explain that what you propose is already in place, though you do not know it.

That is exactly what happens. BUT all chars using that IP are banned then.
Why?

"Ok, my IP is banned...nah, let's switch to the library, and try again." ..... "Ok, library no luck guessing, let's go use proxies that mask my current IP." ....... and after 103 tries, he might have found out your password is "kakashi1" =)

Sorry, but it is 10 (!) times wrong from one IP. Then a ban is issued.

If you have a bad provider that shares IPs, well - bad thing. 10 people do 1 wrong try (and don't login then successfully) and that's it for the eleventh from that IP and all their chars =)

It cannot be replaced. Or do you want brute force tries? =)

I honestly do not recall a ten time attempt to figure out my OWN password.

still doens't work, i even tried to go to "forgotten password" and it keeps taking me to the home page saying i'm banned until after the 18th .-.
