So the "Rp on the forum" Thread got me thinking, and a lot of people don't prefer to rp on the forum despite the creative advantages of doing so. Of course I have no problem with this but I was thinking about a way to bring more of the creative expanses of the forum to the actual site, so I was wondering if there would be any way that we could incorporate a picture system to the SL site,

I think this would be really useful and would help to bolster rp, because it's a lot easier to post a picture than to try to describe every little detail of something, for instance



Something like this would be hard to explain to the last detail, at least reaching the full effect of the pictures -in my opinion, anyway- So I was wondering if we could incorporate pictures into the site.

I imagine there would be stipulations concerning size, so perhaps the pictures could only be around the size of Avatar pictures? Maybe smaller if necessary. And if they're done by weblink they could be automatically downsized just like avatar pictures are via weblink.

So where, specifically, do you propose these be added?

If this is a text-based site and we type to RP on the main village page, where would we post these?

If it's even possible I was thinking they could just be added into posts, so they would just upload onto the village page or zone board or whatever, which is why size control would be necessary so huge pictures don't try to upload onto the board and take the whole thing up

I don't really see this happening. I mean you could always just provide a link to a pic at the end of you post or during by using {linkex}. Our simply send it via pm.

Honestly doesn't this count as cheating. Rp standards should be to give details in such a manner.

Not trolling but I have seen much more complex settings perfectly described in text over the years. Such a setting is surely extensive but do-able in the sense of typing. Seems more of a shortcut to me. Besides, the wikia is a scene where specific areas can gain proper pictures and descriptions of their own to help paint a better picture in one's head while role playing.

If anything, like it was mentioned. Should you really wish to display a picture you can send a link via PM to literally help illustrate the setting. I believe the various pictures popping up would ruin the text flow and overall layout of the boards, turning it more forum-wise.

Reference images can help a reader imagine settings a bit clearer, because it is indeed, a picture. However, I think painting a picture with only words is the somehow one of the purposes of forum roleplay, yes? It's a matter on how you can describe something to the point that your reader will be able to create a clear image of it in his/her head as if he/she is really right there or he/she can feel what exactly is happening on your post. It takes a lot of practice but in the end, you might surprise yourself on how well you can dish out such descriptive posts.

RP aside, one of the glaring issues with such a feature is that there would be a large amount of moderation tasked out specifically for this function. In order for an image to be featured, it would have to go through a screening process to make sure it is suitable for viewers. If not, there would be nothing keeping people from spamming porn/gore/etc if such a feature were allowed. That is why we have to wait a little while for the avatars to be displayed, as to make sure that everything is PG13-ish.
Of course, some people circumvent this by posting a (sometimes borderline) pornographic image as their bio-link, but usually those people are found out and the problem is rectified. I know I've personally told a small handful of people that their images were against the rules (politely of course) and so far they've never had a problem changing it (usually, is was as simple as just ignorance of what is and isn't allowed).
So yeah, while images can be a neat idea, it would be hell implementing it logistically. That's my two cents at least

I can see this being useful, but there would have to be clear limits in place and an option for images to be disabled in user settings for those that do not want to be bombarded by images. Personally I will not use the feature, for this is a text based RP site and thus I write everything out.

I don't mind the feature not being included, I can write things out as easily as the next person. I just figured it would be something worth mentioning just for the sake of doing it, making things a little lighter and mixing it up a bit.

But obviously by the wide consensus this isn't the best thing to include, so i'm not worried about it Thanks for all the input though everyone

I like both, images created with words and the ability to refer to something. I can describe something all day long and still not get my meaning across.

so on the profiles wikia, we have included some images in Suna for stock locations to give a basic foundation to things that people can check out. The village map, the underground cavern of the Al-Kahtar, the Bedouin refuge, the desert temple oasis/ Illac Rennin, a sand worm in relation to a human being, basic suna gear, the salt flats, the sand seas. I think it is in the Kiri page, or maybe it is just Shima Umiosa's page, there is the smuggler's cove.

but yes, image approval would be a nightmare. I could imagine the mods getting nothing else done. Anyone recall it used to take days to get an avatar approved? lol
