Game Related Discussions / How do you make a page on the wikia?
« on: January 17, 2015, 04:38:31 PM »
I'm trying to go through this game the right way as far as RP goes. But I have legitimately no idea how to navigate the wikia and build a new page. Is there anyone who would be able to help me out or possible link me a tutorial on how to use it?

Thanks for the welcome. I will do my best to be an active member of the RP community. Hopefully we can all have fun together.

Did anyone say Welcome?

It is always exciting for me to see new faces and hear what people think.

The speed of RP is so unpredictable. I know right now the holiday break is over and people are going back to school/college so get busy. And it is flue season so some are ill.

On SL...left side bar of options in the village board...
If you go into...the preferences tab...game behavior preferences...you can select to set your timestamps in commentary to relative time and it then will list the amount of time it has been since someone posted a comment in the boards....like this found in Kumo...

(2d3h) [Senpai 玉][Master 主君]<火> Uchiha Kamui

(20h10m) <|雲|> 六代目雲影 Koji @%$!s his head

Goodness Koji! Do you kiss your momma with that mouth????

hope that helps some.

But RP time? what a mess. It might take me and Warren 14 days to rp 3 hours worth of action....while Eric and Mushizo post of 3 days in 2 RL hours. And then if Mushizo tries to meet Warren or I in RP....he has to time travel to the past!
lol
which no one does.

We just wing it the best we can.

I have non-canon characters. And if some people won't rp with me because it doesn't fit their story line, there are others who will. There is room for all of us here.

No, no one really welcomed me besides you when I started posting in Suna. And I made sure to turn on that in preferences when I realized nothing new was posted over the course of a day. I've started to get a hang of the post frequency now, and understand that we all have lives. My classes start up next week plus I work full time in an ER. And winging it sounds like a good plan.

Naruto / Last Naruto movie, not really last.

http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Boruto:_Naruto_the_Movie

Don't know how accurate this info is considering that it's a wikia, but another movie is scheduled to come out this year. That with the continuation of the manga as a miniseries this year around spring shows that Naruto as a series still has some life left in it.

Then why don't we just do away with bijuu as tangible things? Make it so they can't be obtained. But the thing is, if you get rid of bijuu, what's the next thing people will squabble about? Setting limits somewhere just allows for limitation elsewhere as well.

So bijuu can either be free for whoever wants to use them in RP.
Make it so no one/thing can claim the bijuu and make them off limits RP-wise.
Continue to regulate 'official' bijuu status but find some sort of compromise.
Keep it as it is.

Any other options people can think of?

As for RP, hardly stale, its a fair deal more active right now than it has been in a long while...in some villages anyway. Either way, if anything it might be you that has far too high standards, because more than once did I see you post going 'oh everything stopped, I'ma leave' when nobody immediately posted again in 10-30 minutes. Not everybody can always be online all at once, so larger events such as the suna earthquake -assuming even a vague semblance of a posting order is followed- can take from some hours to a day to pass a round. Quite normal really.

I think you're right about that. My standards were set too high and I expected a much more lively community. And I didn't know about the several day issues going on when I first came here, but I'm starting to understand it. It just makes time in the RP sense confusing because it's hard to tell the day/night cycle.

Also, it's nice to see the clarification from the more well-known players that the Ninja-only rule isn't enforced by a lot of people. It allows for more creative freedom that way, I believe. And I will have to make a page on that wikia when I get home then. Hopefully some fun comes out of it.

You clearly are fairly fresh if you think this all to be true.

We have a wide plethora of people who are all kinds of crazies. Thing is, when you talk about "stale" is the fact that most RP doesn't go on in the main boards. Mostly, they've all become privatized either in PMs, clan halls, or dwellings.

As for the MotD, pretty sure that only Neji (site owner) can do anything about that.

As for forums, they are intoduced all the time and when more people's opinions are needed, links to the specific threads are posted on the boards. Most of the time, people just read the threads but have no comment. Mostly, the forum is used a political gathering.

Other than that, the only real restrictions are on the jinchūriki and Claimed List from the wikia page. Besides those two entities, people are free to do whatever they want. Needless to say, that doesn't always mean people will play along with other people. And that's just how the human race is.

True or not, I'm just telling you how it looks from my perspective. And Wikia page? Where is that? I had no idea that this exists. Because the SL wiki doesn't really seem to contain much information especially considering I can't even see the last update on it. And I know people don't always play nice together, that's especially true where I work. People from all sorts of backgrounds lumped together and are expected to work together.
If someone wants to RP that they're evil. Go right ahead, have fun. Someone wants to RP that they're good. Go right ahead, have fun. Someone wants to go ahead and RP that they're a dancing alien. Go right ahead, have fun. But don't deny someone the ability to join in the RP world just because they're not exactly 'canon' to the Narutoverse. I know we have plenty of demons and cat-girls already. Why not have more variety as long as it's not extreme and annoying like Title Somebody uses a spirit bomb to destroy Konoha and then flies off to Kiri to pick up the city and throw it into the ocean. I can agree to ignore crap like that.

Just a random thought that occurred with what Eric said about everyone having access: What if the bijūs became their own entity and were unaffiliated with any specific person? Instead, they are played by the moderators using that text that rids of the player name and it becomes world text.

From there, the moderators can have the beasts roam the countryside or visit villages. Or can also become violent and attack people or villages to stimulate roleplay. When nice, people could seek them out to gain friendship, borrow chakra, learn new ninjutsu, etc. When evil, it would cause the villages to band together and test the mettle of some roleplayers in the zones. However, the beast doesn't kill people nor finish off a village. If sufficiently defended against, it retreats. If it looks like a win, walks away smugly before landing the killing blow. Humiliation is a damn good motivator as well.

The problem with that would be the activity of the said moderators. I see that Ace and Nathan are usually very active, but I don't see many of the other ones. AtomKai was last online 36 days ago. Xaos was last on 68 days ago. Shikki was last on 36 days ago. The others were all on within three days. Not only would they have to be active, but they would also have to accept this position of controlling the Bijuu. I think there used to be appointed Game Masters in the past from what I've heard, but I don't know if that still exists/they're still active. This all is incredibly muddled and seems like it needs a complete overhaul. Even if game-masters are appointed, then they need to be people who are not here to make friends and are not afraid to have people hate them. Game masters are supposed to be neutral over-seers with no ulterior motive besides enhancing the fun of the game world. I'm for removing the bijuu holder official list, but if they're still going to be in the universe, then they should be controlled by active game-masters. Either that or have villages/clans control them kind of like in the actual series.

I'm making this topic here, because it does have to do with RP. Now, let me just start by saying this. There are problems with this game and we can all see them. I haven't been here long, but they're painfully obvious to me. The game itself, RP-wise, seems pretty good but unfortunately is pretty dead. But when you come to the forums, it's pretty active even though it's just a few people but it's a crazy mess with all the politics and issues. But how do we fix these issues?

For the forum, I'm a little unsure on how to fix it because people would just have to get along. But, why not extend an invitation out to the new players by putting reminders in the MotD? That's something that pops up universally for all players. I didn't even really know about the forums until I accidentally opened them while I was in the graveyard. It didn't really appeal to me before them so I never bothered clicking on it.

Another quick thing. The lack of MotDs. Last one was when the santa Neji event was turned off and because I don't know how to look back at the MotDs, I don't know when the one prior to the Santa Neji alert was. The lack of MotDs is a good indicator of freshness of this site. Even if the MotD is something simple like "If you want to get more familiar with the people playing, why not visit the forums?" or an inspiring quote/joke or something. Just something more often than once a month or more. Another issue is the staleness of the site, but that can only be fixed by introducing more players.

Another issue is the RP aspect of this game. I'll use an example from my actual life in this one. A while ago, I was stuck in the barracks because of crappy weather and a couple of nerdy guys in our company invited me to play Dungeons and Dragons with them. I figured since I already worked out and there was nothing to do with this weather, why not. I had never played it before, and never played it again, but I had fun. We had a crew of a Paladin, a giant dwarf, a middle-aged Japanese businessman who fell into a toilet wormhole, and a sentient bike. The thing was that we had fun, and a lot of it. We had a good game master and let the dice rolls control our fate. What I believe might be lacking here is the lack of creative freedom. That is unfortunately the nature of the site with it being based off Naruto, but why not extend those borders a little bit?
If someone wants to be something like a shinigami from Bleach, a mage from Fairy Tale, or a lizardman like Reptile from Mortal Kombat, why not let them? So long as they apply the Naruto rules, it should be alright. Example, the mages from FT. Each one has a gimmick, and can't really do much else besides that gimmick. If they follow those same rules and don't do a myriad of abilities, why wouldn't that be fair? If they chose to not have chakra and just use magic, then they close themselves off to the ability to use ninja skills. So long as characters aren't running around spraying Spirit Bombs everywhere, why not let people RP as what they want to RP as instead of restricting them. That might also help keep the newer players from leaving and make them feel more welcome when RPing.

That's the end of my rant. TL;DR, Game's stale. Forums are a mess. RP is too restricted. We need more people to come here and join in the game. Have more activity from the person in charge through MotDs. Let more creative freedom be allowed. We need to make the game more fun.

Bijuu Arena / Re: Proposal

I may be new here, but let me drop in my two cents.

If there is going to be regulation on something fictional and all about a community roleplaying together, then the community should come together on agreement. Don't make challenging a holder so strick to start with. For the players who will have the bijuu to start with, we have to decide where they fit in in the SL world. Are they protected by a village like Naruto and Bee? Are they roamers like the three tails? I know it technically didn't have a host, but you know what I mean. Or are they part of an organization or clan, like the ones Akatsuki already had?
If the global bingo book idea is implemented into the game, then maybe it can also play a role in determining who is good and who is evil. Obviously, the evil guys are probably going to try and take the bijuu for their evil needs while the good guys are probably trying to use the bijuu to protect villages.
Back onto challenging. If someone challenges a bijuu, all they have to do is ask. No waiting for the previous person who challenged them. Waiting for people to post stuff in SL slows everything to a snail's pace. The bijuu holder has to accept all challenges. Or to make things better, what about doing away with formal asking? Not like Akatsuki penciled in an appointment with the three tails. Just make everything RP-Wise. Sure, there would need to be a public list so people know what's official, but it should require some espionage to find out who has what RP wise.
Another key thing. Leave personal lives at home. Remember, this is just a game. No cyber-bullying. No bull. Just have fun with it. And if you're a holder and are going to quit, let the community know so it can be passed on. People who also have bad conduct should also have their bijuu revoked if they don't comply after two warnings. And that's generous. By bad conduct, I mean slandering and RL things. Just being RP evil doesn't count.
This is the ninja world. Ninjas backstab and spy. Becoming the friend of a holder just to turn on them is a valid idea. But be prepared for repercussions. Like falling into lava and dying in your son's arm in a sequel.
Sorry for the long and messy post. I'm about to go to sleep and I saw all this bickering and mudslinging and honestly, it pissed me off that people were getting their panties so bunched up over a game. Just play it and have fun. We come here to unwind and escape the crap we put up with during the day. People shouldn't come here and get more stressed out.

Also, what's up with the bijuu fights on the forums? Why can't people just do it in the zones? Seems like once you're posting a three paragraph response, you're moving your whole side of the chessboard at the same time. This isn't dragon ball z, where characters take 5 episodes to make a move. We're going to die of old age before anything gets done at that rate. Fighters involved in those things should agree on a time and place when it comes time to throw down. Don't drag it on for real life days. Maybe in game time can actually matter at that point too.

Character Profiles / Becquerel
« on: January 16, 2015, 05:03:59 AM »
Name: Becquerel

Wiki Page: http://narutoprofile.wikia.com/wiki/Becquerel

Appearance: Usually seen wearing a pair of cargo shorts and a plain t-shirt of a lighter color. His broad shoulders and  large frame are an indicator of his physical strength. He always keeps his hair shaved, keeping his head bald.

Affiliations: None

Brief background: He has recently appeared, almost seemingly from nowhere. He is frequently seen traveling through the streets of Konoha or the streets of Suna either just browsing the current going-ons or gathering information. When he is not out in the cities, he spends time within the lab he inherited which is in a secret location.

Personality: He is very approachable, but does not seek out attention. He will gladly strike up a conversation with anyone who requests one and rarely turns people away if they ask him for help. Though he is willing to help people, he does not go out of his way to help them and will not attempt to stop someone if they are conducting 'evil' actions unless it is directly related to him. He is a passive observer.

Hobby: He is a man of science. Using the lab he inherited, he has access to a large variety of tools and inventions but is often making new ones depending on what he needs. The actual contents of his lab are also secret and only to be revealed to those that he grants access.

RP: Always open to RP, whether it's in the zones, the cities, or in PM. Everything is in character when in the the cities and zones, and is usually in character in PMs unless otherwise specified.

Unique info: Byakugan is relatively useless on him. If someone with the byakugan were to look at him while using it, he would appear similar to a stone or other inanimate object as if he was completely lacking chakra. For someone using the sharingan, they would not be able to use any ocular or other genjutsu on him due to his lack of chakra. The reason for these things are currently secret and will have to be revealed through RP.

Everything else is currently classified and will be revealed through RP to the players and will be updated as it is revealed.

OOC: I really have no idea how to navigate the SL wikia when it comes to making a page. I'm a bit computer illiterate when it comes to things like that.

Pages: 1 ... 45 46 [47]

Page created in 0.06 seconds with 16 queries.
