Can't you do this? I hate the fact about being dead and not being able to go talk to my friends...I mean, I'm pretty sure there's other people who would like this idea...
I mean, I bet a lot of people hate waiting X hours just to talk to their friends.
If not for free, then make it cost a bit of favor.

If this has been asked before, I'm sorry and didn't know it was. Just close/delete this then.

if you only want to talk to your friends... well, they can go to the gypsy tent and talk to you in the shades.

I won't directly link you to the outside world chats... as you are dead...
and not able to act.

Also, you can't be in the fighting zone, of course.

Hm, well, another chat area other than the Shades...

I can live with that if enough users feel there is a need. It's not a bigger problem to solve.

I see where you're coming from.

I've seen many people just fight in the Shades in general, but there is also a con to that. People spamming in the middle of the fight...

I'm half and half on this one myself.

Maybe you could pay favors for it.

(On a side topic that's both  on and off: Maybe you can put something like the gypsy tent down in shades. Only here you can scry the gardens or something for X amount of favor.)

Maybe a smaller version of the fighting zone in the shade where only dead players can go. Meaning you cant go there through the gypsy.
