I don't think it makes much sense that you go from X to Y, but not from Y to X, Why is that?

What you say is true though when you are traveling from X to Y it might be a clear sunny day, on the way from Y to X it could be a storm and tree may have blocked the path.

Maybe if while traveling you could chose 1 of 3 routes and by Random Chance you either set of some event or merely continue to the Village
