An Outbox Question
« on: August 10, 2008, 08:18:45 PM »

Well since we cant delete the outbox anymore, Im  just wondering will the messages delete after awhile because at around 250 messages in the outbox the mailbox, the loading times start to slow down drastically.

My guess is yes, the messages in the outbox will be deleted automatically after a while.
I believe that's how its been, the messages delete after a while, that's why you don't have messages in the outbox from over a year ago. Maybe some might if they haven't messaged in a while, but I'm not sure.

I believe they just delete after a while.

the outbox messages were deleted automatically before, too =)
correct.

well, the outbox itself should not really be used much, as it is only for a "erm, did I sent this to him/her?" or "what did I write" thingy.
mainly for me to have copies in case somebody accuses somebody of something and all mails got deleted.
that is a PITA.

how about paging?
or well...

the outbox might be slow, that's correct. though that saves space.
though if you hit it, you slow others down because the database processes your request... HMMM

tight situation.

I always deleted the outbox because i send lots of messages, so i actually never knew it auto deleted lol

Im always looking at my outbox, i cant remeber what i say from one person to the next :D

The outbox also can be used to see "did they read the message i sent" Thats why im always looking at it also.

Thanks for the answer

Well, you being the second person telling me about the outbox, we might do something differently.

however, what do you propose.

I can please a link in a message to the previous one you sent to that fella. if that is what you're concerned about.

means:

  • read message sent by XYZ
  • wondering what you wrote him
  • click on the "previous message to that bloke" button
  • read & be enlightened

we can do the same when it comes to received. "read last message from that bloke"

all if it exists, of course.

Well isn't there some sort of thing...i dont know
that enables you go hold our messages in a, i suppose, "storage"
That is for you only? And still allow us to delete our messages? I myself use the outbox very frequently and it DOES tend to take a while to load. Becomes a pain actually =/

It's very annoy. A have over 800 messages in my outbox. Imagine how long I have to wait.

Why can't we just send the advertising PMs to Neji via Petition than have an overfilled outbox, I ask you!?

It is not just about the "advertising PMs."

Sometimes, rules might be broken, and if a complaint is made then Neji has to have a way to check the messages.

Think more before you post, that would be a better focus for your thoughts.

Ok, that last one was a joke. But a serious question:

Is there a way that when we delete the outbox of full messages that it is stored somewhere where Neji can view the messages to check for the things mentioned earlier?  :-?

There is an archive, indeed.

If you do not want to see it anymore =) okay. then I'll only let you view the last 7 days.

Your mails to hold then THREE times redundant will cost the server ~ 400MB of database space.

then your backups will be much slower, the game speed too.

I do not think you want that =)
