Kakashi obtained the Mangekyou Sharingan, because of training, emotions (I.E. Remembering Obito), and the fact, that; that eye is Obito's.
It was even stated by Obito, that he said something like:
"I'll be your eye's, from now on."
I want to start off by expressing my disapproval in Dark’s post. You claim Fifty is a complete idiot but then you post some false info on how Kakashi gained his Mangekyou Sharingan. >.>
Frankly, we don't know how Kakashi gained it and it's evident that he may have trained for it. However, we don't know the training methods he used to obtained it. Emotions? This is not DBZ in how to become a Super Saiyan. Kakashi visits Obito's grave like almost everyday. If emotions played a role in it, he would have gained MS at or near the start of the series. The same can be said to Sasuke as well.

And what's with the reference of Kakashi’s Sharingan being Obito's?
Based on what we've seen, Obito was a simple Uchiha and wasnt even close to genius level. Obito graduated from the Ninja Academy at the age of 9, and was promoted to Chunin at the age of 11. He activated his Sharingan at the age of 13.
Kakashi graduated from the Ninja Academy at the age of 5, and was promoted to Chunin at the age of 6. Let’s not forget he was promoted to Jounin at the age of 13.
Itachi graduated from the Ninja Academy at the age of 7, and was promoted to Chunin at the age of 10. He activated his Sharingan at the age of 8. Let’s not forget he turned ANBU Captain at the age of 13.

I don’t see no relation to that quote and Mangekyou Sharingan. It just means that since Kakashi has Obito’s eye, it’s like Obito can see the future through Kakashi since a piece of Obito is living inside/through Kakashi.

1. He may have casted a genjutsu upon himself through a Sharingan mirror reflection or some outside means. In this genjutsu, he is killing his close friend/family member.
2. He has been blaming himself for Obito’s death for a while. One day, the feeling has been escalated so far that he really believes that he killed Obito directly. Like he actually believed he picked up the knife and killed him in cold blood. His belief in this is so strong that it triggered the awakening of his Mangekyou Sharingan.
These 2 theories would fall into the MS requirement but of course, it could be a different method that Kakashi used. I only hope we will find out what that method was.
