I need an external hard drive though.

I have to back everything up for when I get a laptop next year/this year/whenever.

I don't buy video games, and I don't download movies...?

Music via limewire is perfectly legal as long as you don't infringe copyright laws. It's just sharing. The same as if one person buys a CD, and lets a friend borrow it.

Incorrect!

What you said is okay, but if you make a copy of the CD and give it to a friend, then it is not if I believe correctly.
However for a better explanation, http://communication.howstuffworks.com/limewire4.htm.

Burning a CD is copyright infringement.

It's making a replication of the product without the manufacturer/owner's permission.

Pretty much what comes up when you watch a DVD, and there's that annoying FBI anti-piracy thing...

But, I never said burning a CD... I said letting someone borrow one you've bought.

Yes, which isn't what you do on LimeWire, your making copies of it for anyone to obtain.

But, it's not being reproduced into a format that can be sold.

Just something for private use, and as long as it stays like that, it's not infringing copyright, is it?

It can be sold in that format, look at iTunes ^^
And it's not private use if you distribute to other people.

I'd buy albums, I just don't have the money to buy an album just for one song.

And I refuse to support iTunes, as they make profit just from displaying artist's work. A lot of it also goes to studios and developers, so the actual artists really only make like a dime for every dollar spent. iTunes jumped from 99c per song to $1.29 per song? All for them. The RIAA are the greater of two evils. >_>

I'd rather Limewire and donate directly to artists, but then they'd be like "Why is this guy donating? Oh, pirate."
