A new laptop.

And I've been taking suggestions from as many people as possible, after telling them to just completely rule out Macs.

I'm assuming a $1,000 budget, and it needs to be reliable.

So, suggestions?

First to Shikki.

It really all depends on what you need it for. If you are just needing a general all purpose kinda thing then the HP dv6t is a decent enough laptop for your price range and it's what I have. Let me know what you need it for and what you'd like in it and I can give you a few suggestions.

Second to Ice.

I absolutely loathe Macs and Apple in general. Apple currently has remote sensors in all their products that monitor your heart beat, usage, and voice, though this is more prevalent in the iPhone. If they find anyone of these suspicious they can remotely deactivate their product.

I like Macs for their aesthetics, but they're not what I need. I can't use them for anything but entertainment purposes. I'll admit, they've got some amazing deals with their free iPod Touches and whatnot, but they're still over-priced.

Also, I'm trying to learn how to code, and I really want to run Linux.

Just for general college stuff, a little bit of coding as stated, going with the dual OS if I can.

I've signed up for the HP Academy to get discounts, so I can actually upgrade the dv6t to have an 8 GB RAM, an i7, leave the hard drive as is [Since they're giving a pretty good one, and I'm getting an external for back-ups anyways.], and get a spare oversized battery for under $1,000.
