Allow weblinks for clan avatars?
« on: May 27, 2015, 06:04:55 AM »

I'm sorry if I'm getting annoying with the whole avatar thing, but this should be easy. I'm not asking for the dimensions to be expanded or anything, but just to allow me to weblink, just like what you do for avatars? I sorta wanna use a gif, but the file size limit is killing me.

I would ask for .gifv support...it's like Html5 stuff and what not, but that's harder lol. Just a simple weblink.

What about .webm's? Their file size is a lot smaller than a .gif and they present a lot better quality than .gifs too. I don't know if this site is capable of presenting .webm's considering it's a bit of a new format. But that might be something better than having a .gif avatar. Especially if it's still going to have a small resolution, the file size would be negligible.

Well for now you'll either have to sacrifice image resolution or the length of the gif size.

There's a lot of things better than a gif now a days. Imgur has gifv. Look at my sig, that's a gifv. A webm is literally a video...but it's using html5 and what not. It's snazzy. And gfycats are the same as gifv...if SL could support new formats, I'd be so happy...

I would love to use it Teostra, but SL doesn't support it.

But, that's not what I'm asking...I just want a simple weblink. It literally should be easy...super easy.

Point of an avatar is an image - logo, if you want.

It's not intended to be a movie ;))

It wasn't a movie, but rather a swirly thing.

I had fun making it, but oh well I guess.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I've seen Gifs uploaded like the one from The Forbidden Nin

That's 149,525 bytes. Mine is frkn 3 million. I asked someone on Reddit to compress it and they resized it down, but only go it to 800K bytes.

In my rage and frustration, I put something that was 70,000 bytes in protest.

The Forbidden Nin gif has less frames (36) whereas Genesis's has around 200 I think. I didn't count them all.

200 frames in a gif isn't a lot in 2015. >>

And I'm not Neji with mod powers. Though I totally can code.

It's not a coding issue really.

My point is, as stated, that an avatar is a static thing - an image of your character, if you may :)
A gif is limited, which makes it somewhat fair.
