Title: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 24, 2011, 08:17:47 PM
So, I was lying around yesterday (actually, the day before yesterday but whatever) when I remembered reading about this fiendishly difficult Pokaymanz challenge. The rules: If a Pokayman faints, it's considered dead, and you can only catch the first Pokayman you see when you enter an area. So I picked up my old Sapphire version, lawled at my crappy old team, reset, and began. I wish this box had word wrap so I could proofread my damn story. >_> Whatever.

So of course I picked Mudkip. Because I liek it. And I named him Captain, because he's a boss. Now, the first Pokayman I saw on the first route was a Zigzagoon, but I ignored this fact seeing as I didn't have any pokeballs yet. First, I had to go dominate May with my Mudkip, which was already like level 9 by that battle. Had to make sure I wouldn't lose. Once I did get my pokeballs, I ended up catching a Wurmple. His name was Squiggles, and I'm pretty sure I got him to Dustox within 5 minutes. He was pretty boss. Over the next few routes, I picked up Fawkes the Wingull, Rex and Jimmy the Poochyenas, (HEY THE FORUM WRAPPED IT HERE!) and Rusty and Nibbles the Zigzagoons. At first I thought the Zigzagoons would suck, but as it turns out Pickup is the most clutch ability ever and I had rare candies flowing out my nether regions. Not really. But I had like 3 rare candies which is more than zero. After grinding to dominate Roxanne and her stupid Nosepass, I entered my first gym battle.

I had used Fawkes to solo the trainers in the gym with his water gun, so I was pretty confident I could dominate the Geodude. This was not the case. After my water gun left it with a sliver of HP, Geodude's Rock Tomb one-hit Fawkes. I flipped s*** at this point, because I actually liked him and WHY THE HELL DOES ONE ROCK TOMB DO 32 DAMAGE AT THIS STAGE WINGULL IS WATER/FLYING WUT. So Captain had to go avenge him and beat the forever-loving hell out of re-healed Geodude and Nosepass. I picked up Filamena the Taillow and Amps the Whismur, though I pretty much boxed them because meh. Next came Dewford!

The first thing I did when I got there was get the Old Rod and catch me a Magikarp. Unfortunately, it was female, so I had to name it Cleo. Fork had started his own Nuzlocke on Ruby at this point, and made me feel dumb because he named his Zigzagoon Betty, which is infinitely better. But he has three Zigzagoons, so ha. It was now time to grind for a Gyarados, but after catching a Zubat in Granite Cave I decided that'd be much better for taking on a Fighting-type gym. After hitting level 18, though, I got bored and realized Dustox could solo the gym because it has 4x resistance to fighting AND confusion. It pretty much one-hit everything. I was glad I could use flash now, but none of my team could learn it. Damn. So I had to find Steven in the cave using the map on Wikipedia. Picked up Lucy the Zubat. I'm going to skip ahead a bit because it's boring.

After dominating Team Aqua inside the museum in Slateport, I headed north where I caught Sparky the Plusle. At first I was excited to get an electric Pokaymanz and not a Zigzagoon, but then I realized I could have gotten an Electrike which are much better. Oh, well. Time to dominate train- WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE YOU STUPID W****?!? My rival obviously figured out that her only chance of fainting one of my Pokaymanz would be to sneak up on me while I was leveling my Magikarp. She got so pretty good hits on my Dustox for switching, but I still dominated her. BAM. GTFO, WOMAN. At this point I started flipping out because I thought my team would get dominated by electric-types, but then I realized that my new Marshtomp was immune to electricity so I lawled and dominated Wattson. At this point he was like level 24, which is pretty pro but Fork's Combusken was level 21 by the first gym. Of course, he had a type disadvantage so he had to overtrain. Haha. ALWAYS PICK MUDKIP. Now, onwards to the Volcano! Wait, I went to Verdanturf first. I think I caught an Oddish named Belle because I'm gonna make it a Bellossom. I don't think this game even has leaf stones. So I went and laughed in Wally's face for sucking and THEN went to the Volcano. I caught two Numels, Zelda and Hephaestus, two Machops, Thor and Malcolm, Bearburt the Spinda, Chica the Lotad, and Artemis the Lunatone. I boxed them all because whatevs. Only fire type I'd use in this game is Ninetales. So I went and beat Team Aqua, but their boss almost killed Captain AND Lucy, who was now a Golbat (AND A F***ING PRO ONE AT THAT). They both survived with like 7 HP, even after that Sharpedo's haxxor Rough Skin. I dodged all the trainers on the way to Lavaridge Town. I figured Marshtomp could solo the gym, so I got to Flannery but got tired and turned the game off without saving. I woke up and realized my last save had been before Archie, so this time I dominating him entirely. Got me a Crobat and caught back up to where I was. I'm all Pokayman'd out, though, so I'll play moar later. This will probably display like crap because of the stupid formatting. Whatever.

EDIT: I just suck at apostrophes, apparently. >_> Stupid Enter button being adjacent to it.

So, you should definitely not be using rare candies.

Also, Blaziken beats Swampert. [That's the last stage, right?]
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 24, 2011, 10:20:13 PM
Yes to rare candies. People who think they mess with your stats are misinformed. >_>

And Blaziken can't romp through the first four gyms, can it? That's a no. I just dominated Flannery.

BUT THIS F***ING SANDSHREW

I'm fighting a trainer in the desert and his Sandshrew gets +20% evasion in sandstorms, but I've missed eight times in a row. He can't even hit me. But I can't put the a**hole out of his misery.

Post by: Shikki on July 24, 2011, 10:24:25 PM
You should make the challenge harder.

Also, I've used Blaziken to beat the game before.

Just need to get it to a high enough level and it's unstoppable.

I hate sandshrews.

Post by: hiro on July 24, 2011, 10:26:48 PM
Nope, this is my first attempt so it's easy goings. >_>

And I LIEK MUDKIPS CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND?!?

Updates: Belle evolved into Gloom, Captain is almost a Swampert, and I just caught a Trapinch. Naming him Melvin.

Do you have a leaf stone yet?

I LIKE FIRE TYPES MOAR

Nice choice with Melvin.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 24, 2011, 10:32:49 PM
Don't know about leaf stones in this game, actually. I know I can get a sun stone later, so I'm planning on Bellossom even though Vileplume is better.

Only fire type I like in R/S is Vulpix/Ninetales, but the odds of me getting that when the time comes is low. For now I have those Numels.

And I wonk, rite? >_>

Also, Claw Fossil. The way around "one Pokaymanz per area."
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 24, 2011, 10:40:11 PM
Oh, right, I forgot it's sun stone for Bellossom and Leaf for Vileplume... For some reason, I thought you went Vileplume, then Bellossom...

I love Vulpix, but Ninetails isn't as good. I had a Vulpix I kept, and one I evolved into Ninetails. My Vulpix ended up with better stats.

Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 24, 2011, 10:42:38 PM
Then you did it wrong. Entirely. >_>

Anywho, my current top six:
Captain, Marshtomp 34
Lucy, Crobat 32
Cleo, Gyarados 27
Squiggles, Dustox 26
Belle, Gloom 21
Melvin, Trapinch 20

Now I have to start powerleveling.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge

Almost at Swampert.

Powerlevel Cleo and Belle.

I know how to play this game. >_>

I've played just about every version. Platinum and Black are the only exceptions.

I don't play enough.

I probably should, huh?

It'll come in handy in College...

Quite. Gateway to failure. >_>

"Yeah, I dropped out because Pokaymanz."
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge

Oh well, I'm going to be a failure anyways, might as well be the very best, like no one ever was.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 25, 2011, 04:32:25 AM
Sounds pretty good. I'm now up to Norman, and I've dominated all of his trainers except for the one in the OHKO room. Seriously, f*** people that use those moves. One guy lost his LV50+ starter to a Rhydon's Horn Drill at Viridian Gym.

I have to get Lucy strong enough to handle a critical Facade, because regularly it's a 3HKO against her. Is that considered cheating? >_> I've turned the game off on the last two gyms to get a sense of how strong their pokaymanz are. Not because I was in danger or someone fainted; I always quit well before that.

Although... if I was killed in one hit, I guess I'd have to carry out the challenge.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 25, 2011, 09:08:25 PM
Well, as you know I started my Nuzlocke challenge yesterday, so I suppose I should tell my tale.

SO THERE I WAS! Choosing Charmander as always, because it's a boss. Named him Charlie, after the horse, and then realized I had named him Charlie the Charmander afterward, and was like... "Oh... Wow."

Blahblahblah, I haven't even beat Misty yet, because I'm training my team to be well balanced and getting them all to lvl 20+.

My team at the moment:

Charlie (Charmeleon)
Woodstock (Pidgeotto that evolved from the first pokemon I caught)
Hank (Mankey)
Priscilla (Butterfree)
Rickey (Pikachu) [Got so lucky that I accidently killed the first pokemon that showed up since I had avoided all the Viridian forest grass until I didn't have a choice, and he was the second pokemon I encountered that popped up near the exit.]
Rocco (Geodude)

Oh, I need a ruling on whether Peter (Rattata) is a fair catch, since I caught him on the other end of Viridian Forest, but that still counted as Route 2, and I didn't realize until after I had gone to the Pokemon Center to heal Priscilla who I had been leveling up. I haven't trained him at all, he's been sitting in my box the whole time.

Caught Dinah (Nidoran[Female]) after beating Brock using only Hank and LOW KICK. Then caught Cap'n Jack (Spearow) in the area right after Dinah's. Bought Finn (Magikarp) at the pokemon center outside Mt. Moon, and levelled it up to 9, but I got bored since it took an hour and a half to get him there since I had to keep swapping out which means I'm just going to wait until I get exp. share. Got Rocco inside Mt. Moon, and he surprisingly is pretty strong and useful to have around, especially when going through Mt. Moon because Rock Throw is a OHKO for Zubats. Caught Victor (Bellsprout) in the grass by the daycare center, and now I'm on my way to Vermillion to lvl up before going back to take down Misty using only Rickey.

Rickey keeps almost dying, and so I keep swapping out for Hank before he does. I know that's bad, but I love Rickey. He's a lucky catch, and I need him for Flash/destroying Misty. I'm thinking about evolving him before I go to the Elite Four that way he's fast enough to always get the first hit against Lorelei. [That is her name, right?]

Woodstock pretty much obliterates Douche, my rival. Even Charlie isn't that badly hurt when he goes against the higher lvl Squirtle. I love Charlie, but I don't know how useful that Metal Claw attack is right now...
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 25, 2011, 10:25:31 PM
WHOAWHOAWHOA. Sorry to rain on your parade, dude, but that Pikachu's illegal. If you accidentally kill your first-sighted Pokaymanz, that's your problem. You don't get to catch anything for that route. Google if you must. And all of Viridian is the same area. And Mt. Moon is one entire area, so if you try counting each floor as an area you can't. Otherwise I'd have an Aron.

So now I'll play catchup on my story. I've leveled Thor into a Machoke, and even though he's 4 levels lower than Norman's Slaking I should be good because Low Kick has 100 power on them and I'll get STAB and super effective. Should be a one-hit kill, and if not oh well. I'm not as emotionally attached to him for some reason.

Also, at first I was going to avoid the day care and call it off-limits, but I decided that my three-hour Machop grind could also be spent leveling Cleo so she'll learn some decent moves. Googled to make sure other people do it too, and they do. Lazy b******s. >_> I need a new swear word because I keep going back to count my asterisks to make sure I have the correct number.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 26, 2011, 12:22:41 AM
Too bad, my Pikachu counts.

I didn't catch multiple things for Mt. Moon. Just the one Geodude. It's epic for killing Zubats, and took down Lt. Surge by itself.

I was asking if the part beyond Virdian forest counts, or if I have to release Peter.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 26, 2011, 12:46:47 AM
I forget how it's structured.

And you can keep the Pikachu, but I refuse to acknowledge your success if you finish the challenge with it. >_>

I've been biking back to Petalburg for my next gym badge.

EDIT: Norman's toast. Thor handled the first Slaking pretty easily with a 2HKO Low Kick, but the realization that a crit Facade would kill me in one hit spooked me a little. I swapped to my new Swampert who Mud Shot the Vigoroth and sent Thor back out to handle the last Slaking. Fortunately, the retard tried using Focus Punch so I was able to get two free hits and send him packing.

DOUBLE EDIT: CLEO WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY YOU'RE A GODDAMN GYARADOS HOW COULD YOU DIE AGAINST A MAGNEMITE YOU HAD A THREE LEVEL ADVANTAGE I DON'T CARE IF SPARK IS QUAD EFFECTIVE YOU HAVE A BUHMILLION HP GODDAMN YOU SUCK NOW I NEED A NEW POKAYMAN

I'm navigating Rock Tunnel without the use of Flash, even though I've two pokemon who can use it.

Lolwut. >_>

Also, I think you might have just missed my second edit.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 26, 2011, 01:43:08 AM
NOT CLEO!

I almost lost Hank. He was down to 3. Woodstock went down to 7 after he got put to sleep by a effing Venonat after being confused, and inflicted 90% of the damage on himself.

I swapped them out for my Charlie and he saved both their butts.

Rickey is currently my strongest, at lvl 28, and Charlie is at 25. But Charlie just fell asleep because of a Bulbasaur, that he killed in his sleep. Literally, he burned the Bulbasaur and it was already in the red when he fell asleep in the first round.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 26, 2011, 01:50:24 AM
You've beaten Surge, I'm assuming. >_>

And I just added Cassie the Marill and Bolt the Electrike. Finally have a good electric type.

Gyarados is redudant, though, I guess. Swampert and Crobat cover both of its types, and I'll get a Flygon.

So I'm thinking my team will be Swampert, Crobat, Bellossom, Flygon, Machoke (no trading) and Manectric.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 26, 2011, 01:53:03 AM
Yeah, Rocco took him out. Love Magnitude. I killed his Pikachu with a Magnitude 4.

I like Marill. I'm still in need of a good water. Effing Sandshrews are difficult to fight when you've got a bug, flying, fire, fighting, ground, rock, and electric mix.

Should have ensured getting water by picking Squirtle. >_>

Chimchar is the only non-water I've picked on my first playthrough.

I've never started Bulbasaur, Piplup, Turtwig, Tepig, or Snivy.

I've always hated Zubat and grudgingly respected Golbat, but this is my first time ever raising one, I think. Crobat has always been cool, though.

It's quite exciting. My last four areas have all shown Linoones, though. And then taunted me with Absol and Shuppet. I just killed everything.

Also, Melvin just evolved into Vibrava and Bolt is almost a Manectric.

Oh by the way, I finally beat the elite four and did the silly castle thing on white... Why did they bother trying to have a storyline? It just doesn't work.

Are you guys following any other rules besides these?

Quote
The most basic Nuzlocke rules, as they were first introduced, are as follows:

Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.

While not exactly a definite rule, the general consensus is that players must also nickname all of their Pokémon, for the sake of forming stronger emotional bonds.

The one where Ice doesn't get to use any Pokemon but his Starter.

Also, I named a Snorlax after you. It killed Hank. DAMN YOU ICE!

Oh, right.

Hank died today from a headbutt from a Snorlax on Route 12 at approximately 11:31 pm PST, 12:32 into my game. He was the first casualty of my otherwise fairly decent Nuzlocke run so far. I remember when I first caught him and thought he was useless because his defense and speed were so low... Turns out that's what killed him. Still, he managed to low kick his way into my heart, and I'll miss him. Especially since he pretty much raped Giovanni's Onix and Rhyhorn, and I needed him for Silph Co.'s Team Rocket battles. At least I've got Ice and Abby, the Snorlaxes to fill the void. And I'ma get a shiny Lapras too!

Oh, Hiro, clarification! Safari Zone- One area, or multiple since they've broken it up into seperately named areas? I need to know whether to just go for the grass or fish and hope I catch that Dratini.

I rock!

So I started my Fire Red, called my self Ice, and my Rival Hiro.

Anyway, me and Sir Bubble the Squirtle started our journey together, soon joined by Henry of ! the Ratata... I want a FLIPPIN' PIDGEY!
So I started training Sir Bubbles on route 2, once he got to lvl 10 I changed to Henry of ! and would which in.
Then Sir Bubbles HP got low, so I made the level 3 Herny of ! take on a lvl 4 Ratata... yeah, that went well.
So in a fit of anger, I sent Sir Bubbles out to revenge kill... CRITICAL HIT!?! WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So that was my Nuzlocke run.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 26, 2011, 06:10:11 PM
Shikki, I'm counting the entire Safari Zone as one area. You get one attempt in the entire thing, and if it runs then you're done. Better hope for Dratini, Pinsir, Tauros or Kangaskhan and hope it doesn't run.

I actually can't get in without the Pokeblock case and I'm not googling how to get it.

My Manectric is now one of my better Pokaymanz seeing as I had to cross the sea to get to Mossdeep. Pelipper is such easy experience.

Unrelated note, I'm typing this at 12:07 PM, which is the earliest I've been up in at least a week. I went to bed five hours ago after watching like ten Xiaolin Showdown episodes because I just don't get tired. Hopefully I'll be tired enough to go to bed at a decent hour tonight.

And Ice, you have to heal much more frequently in a Nuzlocke Run. Get your starter to at least 9-10 before training your other Pokaymanz to make sure you can swap it in safely. I am flattered about your Rival's name, though. You should stick with it if you try again. >_>
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 26, 2011, 09:22:56 PM
DAMMIT. So, I've gotta head straight for the water with my super rod?

Can we buy the pokemon from the Game Corner? Since they're not really caught, and there's nothing in the rules against buying...

Manectrics are nice, but I gave up with mine after a while, since I was too lazy to train it.

Pelipper got annoying after a while, and I boxed it, since I didn't have much use for it and I could've used that spot for something better.

Dude, Xiaolin Showdown was such a good show. I saw every episode when it first came out.

Ice, you fail. You also failed to comment on my naming of Snorlax after you.

Also, my first try at a Nuzlocke, I got a really weak Charmander and it died in the first rival battle after taking a critical that knocked down 10 points of its health in Oak's lab and killed it in the third round so I had to restart.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 26, 2011, 09:30:01 PM
1. Yes.
2. One Pokemon and it counts as your one catch for Celadon. Unless you got the Eevee there, which I think is the case. Then no buying.
3. I know, but it's good for a Nuzlocke. Although I just caught Chichi the Chinchou, so I'll have a backup in case Bolt dies.
4. Belle is now a Bellossom. Waited until level 35 so she'd learn Moonlight.
5. I made Cassie my HM slave and evolved her into Azumarill so she'd look better.
6. Melvin swept the Psychic gym for the most part, but because he looked fragile against Kadabras I left him out of the gym battle. Turned out to be unnecessary as Solrock went down in one Surf/Bite combo and Lunatone missed with two Hypnosis shots before it went down.
7. WHERE THE HELL IS WALLACE I FORGOT WHAT TO DO NOW ON TO PACIFIDLOG OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT
8. And I know. I watched it regularly, watched the entire series about two years ago on Youtube, and I'm doing it again. The later plot was better, and the earlier Shen Gong Wu were better.
9. And that makes me the only person who's still on their first attempt. >_>

Well, I suck at spelling Chinchou.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge

1) Kay.
2) Dammit, so I really do need to pray for the Dratini... But I get lucky and get them a lot...
3) I don't like Chimchou. It looks weird.
4) Very nice. I'm still waiting to evolve Rickey. His speed is epic so far, even higher than his HP.
5) I'm going to teach Ice surf until I get Lapras.
6) That doesn't answer my question about which pokemon to get. Unless I can't get one because I'm getting Lapras.
7) HAHA
8) I agree. The later Shen Gong Wu got kinda dumb. I liked the Orb of Water the most. Changing Chopsticks were kinda useless when you think about it.
9) What about Fork?
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge

1. - >_>;;
2. BET YOU WON'T GET IT. Akshuly, I bet you get it and it runs.
3. Yeah, but Water/Electric is an incredible typing.
4. He'll die before he becomes a Raichu.
5. Snorlax surfing is utterly ridiculous.
6. That's actually a good point. I forgot that Lapras is also in Saffron. I'm going to have to say you can only get one of the three.
7. F*** DAT IMMA CHILL
8. Haha, you made a stupid smiley. And yeah, Orb of Tornami was boss while s*** like the "Manchurian Musca" was dumb as hell. Jetbootsu, Shroud of Shadows and Reversing Mirror were my favorites. Also, Changing Chopsticks won several showdowns.
9. He hasn't even lost a Pokaymanz. I was talking about the people in this thread.

Dude, I'll be so pissed if it runs... But they usually don't.

True, I still find it weird.

NEVER

It is not ridiculous, it's actually awesome.

WAIT! If I get Hitmonchan first, I can still get Lapras since you're forced to take it. I won't have broken the rules since you have no choice in taking Lapras to protect it.

Kay.

Dammit. And I don't care, I still don't like the changing chopsticks. Jetbootsu are awesome,  I wish I had some. Shroud of Shadows was a wannabe Invisibility Cloak though... Still good. Wasn't there one that was a Lasso?

That's cuz he's a boss.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 26, 2011, 10:01:17 PM
Because I was forced to take the Castform, I put in a box. The Pokaymanz in it (so far just Castform) aren't dead, but they're unplayable. if you chose Hitmonchan you'd have to box the Lapras.

And yeah, the Lasso Boa Boa. Wasn't that cool, though. Other cool ones were the Falcon's Eye, Serpent's Tail, Third Arm Sash, Shard of Lightning even though it was overpowered...
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 26, 2011, 10:02:50 PM
Can I box Hitmonchan as a dead and use Lapras? I just need to add to my Pokedex for the stuff Oak's Aide gives.

Third Arm Sash would be so useful.

Post by: hiro on July 26, 2011, 10:04:10 PM
Yeah, that'd be fine.

And yeah, as would the Shadow Slicer and Moby Morpher. Those two were also ridiculously overpowered.

Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: ShinobiIceSlayer on July 27, 2011, 04:11:54 AM
So, after yesterdays Fail, I took my DS, and tried again on the train.

This time Ice and Hiro started off, and I decided to go for Bulbasaur, and named him Devo. Why? So every time he used Vine Whip I could go, dun nun nun na Crack that whip. Or if I really wanted to stretch it, I whip my vine back and forth, I whip my vine back and Forth.
So, it was just after naming him I realised, crud, Hiro is gonna have a Charizard... but a Charizard was the least of my worries, as his flippin' Charmander was faster, and able to critical hit... and thus ended Devo.

Now some might turn away at this point, but no! Not I! I saw this as Mr. Nuzlocke's way of telling me, stick with what you know to be true.
So now me and my Charmander Giggles have just gotten back with Oak's Pokéball.
Also, All the way there and back I trained Giggles to lvl 9, seeing nothing but Pidgey, so now that I have Pokéballs, I'm just waiting for a stupid little Ratata show up and ruin everything.

Okay then. >_>

Edit because Shikki never gets on:

Kyogre has been caught, named Scrub, and boxed. Wallace has been defeated, but at a heavy cost. Not even the mightiest of Manectric can stand a critical Ice Beam from a Milotic. Otherwise, he soloed the entire gym. I'll miss you, Bolt. I LEVELED HIM FROM 16 TO 45

Hephaestus the Numel will now be powerleveled to join the team.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 27, 2011, 09:29:00 AM
Ice, your run is already doomed.

Dude, you told me about Bolt already, but neglected to tell me about Scrubs.

Anyways.

I've got about 6 Rare Candy waiting for Fiona. Going to power level her til she's about a 30 Gyarados before boxing her in case something happens to Dumbledore.

Oh, right. Dumbledore is the Dratini I got using my Super Rod in the Safari Zone. He's a Dragonair already. And a pretty badass one at that. He's taken down over half of Team Rocket in Silph Co. I've been worried about him too much though, since he almost died three times. Twice in a row.

Priscilla remains badass as well. She's learned Psychic and Psybeam, so now she can put pretty much anyone to sleep and then just obliterate them.

Charlie is a Charizard now, and has pretty epic stats. His HP has been going up +3 and +4 lately, which is a relief since he started with lower HP than most starters. But he's a fast one too. I can't wait til he's got Fire Blast and Slash... I'm holding onto Metal Claw for now, since I still don't know which type Steel is effective against, and it might be handy. Plus, it's good for catching pokaymanz.

Since the death of Hank I've added Ice to my team [It's only fair that the Snorlax who killed Hank even though both fought him gets his spot.], and Abby is my backup. Ice has grown two levels, mostly because I only use him to take down enemies that keep healing/deal massive damage. Like in Koga's gym, that Muk kept getting healed and using Harden and Minimize, so I had to keep using Rest and Snore to survive those Sludge attacks. It was useful, but eventually it got to the point where I couldn't do any damage, and had to keep using Rest to survive, so I just started over for that fight. Sent out Charlie and just charbroiled Muk and Weezing since Priscilla was still only a lvl 33 at that point.

I still haven't gotten that Haunter or Ghastly, since you get escorted out of Lavender Tower to get the PokeFlute. I'll go back later for it.

I'm about to get my Lapras, once I level everyone up for my fight against Douche, my rival. I need them all to be at least lvl 40, which will make it easier when I'm against Giovanni too.

Oh, Rocco was boxed in favor of Dumbledore.

Team is currently:

Dumbledore - 36
Charlie - 37
Priscilla - 37
Rickey - 33
Woodstock - 34
Ice - 32

Rocco is a 32, and will be my first substitute back in if I lose anyone. Abby is to replace anyone after that.

I'll get the Hitmonlee and Put it in my cemetary after Silph, and name it Hiro.

Forest is different, Route 2 extends beyond the forest though, so the little patch by Pewter is a no catch zone if you got one from before Viridian Forest.

I put Peter in the cemetary just for that reason.

Flappy Lv. 10

Like I said, magic.

Anyways.

I apparently skipped over Sabrina, and destroyed Blain with just Charlie. And by that, I mean literally, the entire gym, all the trainers inside, just with Charlie. He grew 6 levels on Cinnabar alone. Only had to go to the Pokemon Center to restore PP too, and go to Fuschia to unlearn Cut to make room for Slash.

I caught two more Gyarados. Finn and something else. I don't care enough to remember what it was.

Caught a Rapidash at Kindle Road, named it Rainbow since Rainbowdash was too long.

I also approve of your Rapidash. I am proud.

I'm still grinding my Numel (almost a Camerupt) and Fork and I have decided that after the Elite 4 we'll transfer our Pokemon to our Gen4 games so we can battle for supremacy. Afterwards we'll start a FireRed run as well.

He lost his Magneton to the sixth gym's Altaria (Earthquake) and his Hariyama to something Razor Leaf.

Wing Attack and Flame Thrower. SO EPIC. I tried Slash, but it wasn't useful against any of them since Blain just healed the pokemon after they got down to red. So, I switched back to Wing Attack to get below 3/4, and then Flame Thrower to finish them It's funny though, because the Fire Blast Arcanine used barely did any damage on Charlie... I learned Blast Burn after that battle at the Cape on Two Island as part of the extra story line. No more Metal Claw or Cut.

Thing is, I had Dumbledore who knew surf and has pretty decent speed, as well as being a couple of levels above all those pokemon except Arcanine.

I gave up on all my Gyarados, but I'm grinding Absolem, my Abra so I have at least one Psychic. I tried to grind my Aerodactly, Ariel, but that wasn't working out too well since Aerodactyl sucks at low levels and I don't have the patience...

Charlie also went back and dominated in Sabrina's. I only switched out when the Channelers had more than one pokemon to help level up Priscilla. She's a 41 now, and has two psychic attacks as well as Gust and Sleep Powder. Dominates with a Sleep + Attack combo. I can't wait to fight Bruno with her...

Anyways. I've basically been fishing instead of going in the grass whenever I can so that I have more water pokaymanz in case something happens to Dumbledore and I lose my water user. I've managed to get a nice team. Two Poliwhirls [One I'm evolving, one I'm trading for Jynx so I can get a water/ice type], Lapras, Goldeen, Three Gyarados, Staryu, a Kabuto, and something else. Plus, Snorlax knows surf too.

I've got a good fire team as well. Rapidash and two Vulpix, one which I can evolve into Ninetails.

My grass is a bit lacking, but I've got some Bellsprout, and a Weepingbell.

I've got a Fearow in case something happens to Woodstock, and I've still got Cap'n Jack.

I'm hopefully getting that Zapdos in case Rickey goes down, but at the rate he's going, he's getting unstoppable. As long as I don't let him near any fighting/ground/rock types.

There are many in Leaf thanks to the Islands.

Abra is on the way to the Cerulean cave. I got lucky, put it to sleep, caught it with an Ultra Ball.

Vulpix #2 was on Route 8. Repel got me the first one. The second was pure luck.

If you use a Super Rod in the water for the routes made up of water, you get better things than Tentacool.
Goldeen was in the backyard in Fuschia with the water area. Staryu was Treasure Beach. I got one Gyarados on One Island by the port. Another Gyarados in Viridian's water thing. The actual city, not Route 22. Poliwhirl #1 was by Bill's house. I forgot where the other one came in.

Well?

You go right after beating Blain.

So I thought, if I studied, I wonder what will happen.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 30, 2011, 06:46:24 AM
I honestly just need to maintain a B average or higher to keep myself out of trouble, and to keep my financial aid and whatnot from being jeopardized.

Besides, I've got subjects that I'm actually interested in, or have taken already for this first year since it's just basic classes before I'm allowed to do upper division classes. And, I've got the luxury of trying random classes from different fields to see if there's anything that I like better than the whole biology/environmental/medical thing I've got going right now.

I should've started looking at scholarships when I started high school. I'd have enough to pay what's not covered for the first couple of years saved up by now from some I was qualified for, but didn't apply to because I wasn't thinking.

You have to be super smart here to get them in the first year, but after that I hear they're easy. Especially for Engineering, cause the big companies are just throwing Money at the Uni. We have this fancy as First year learning centre, plasma screen TV and everything.

If it took you two people that Onix will probably give you trouble.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: ShinobiIceSlayer on July 30, 2011, 08:16:10 AM
Nah I used Harper on the Geodude, and switched out to test Giggles on Sandshrew.
Onix could still be an Issue, couple of Metal Claws should do it, but it's just if Giggles can hang in there to deal them to him.

Nah, that's the easy way out.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 30, 2011, 08:22:05 AM
Metal Claws is only good to save a spot for Slash at lvl 44. Switch out Scratch for Cut when you get the chance. Flame Thrower replaces Ember.

Wing Attack is actually really useful, so try and keep a flying attack. That or Aerial Ace. Don't bother with Fly, that's what you've got Pidgeot for later.

Onix will destroy you. That's why you needed Mankey. He sweeps the gym when you've got Charmander as a starter.

Get yourself a water type. There's a Magikarp for sale in the pokemon center before Mt. Moon. Worth the $500. Grind it til you get a Gyarados, and it'll save you. Dragon Rage.

Just stock up on potions. You'll need them. You won't be able to control your pokaymanz if you level them up too much.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: ShinobiIceSlayer on July 30, 2011, 08:31:54 AM
Oh yeah, I forgot about that, I'll probably bump Giggles to 20 or so.

So with Magikarp, what route does he count as?
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 30, 2011, 08:32:16 AM
The one you buy him on.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge

So I can't grab any Pokémanz there... interesting.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 30, 2011, 08:33:26 AM
Route 4.

He's right outside Mt. Moon, so you can't catch anything in the patch after Route 3, or the patch after Mt. Moon until you get into Cerulean.

Mt. Moon is fair game though.

You should get a Geodude. They're so useful...
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 30, 2011, 08:34:13 AM
Why is that interesting? >_>

I recommend getting something else on that route. You can fish up a Magikarp on one of the routes you don't need.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: ShinobiIceSlayer on July 30, 2011, 08:35:38 AM
Yeah I just looked up the map, thought the spot just outside of pewter was part of the same route!

But anyway, they're mostly useless anyway.

When do you get the old rod?
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 30, 2011, 08:37:09 AM
The only other things on those routes are Pidgey, Spearow, and Nidorans.

You'll be lucky if you get anything better on your first go. But honestly, you won't be able to get any water pokaymanz for a while, and when you do get a rod, you'll waste your chance at a better pokaymanz if you're going to get a Magikarp... Just wait til you get a Super Rod.

Yeah, but it takes too long to get one.

And you're actually more likely to get a Nidoqueen in Leaf Green. Nidoran[Female] is the more common one, and is the one that shows up on Route 3.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on July 30, 2011, 08:50:47 AM
Still good. At it's easy because you get a Moon Stone inside Mount Moon and Nidoran evolves in the low 20s.

Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on July 30, 2011, 09:03:28 AM
If you wait to evolve it to Nidorina until lvl 20, you get Poison Sting and Bite early as a Nidoran. [17 and 20 vs. 18 and 22]

But you'd want the better stats too... Still, bite is better than the other attacks that she'd know.

Post by: hiro on August 01, 2011, 10:38:20 PM
So Fork started his Fire Red run because his brother took Ruby, so I also started Fire Red and put Sapphire on hold. He started with Hector the Bulbasaur while I started with Bruce the Squirtle (after dying on my first attempt with some other Squirtle whose name I cannot remember). After running all kinds of bulls*** errands, we started catching some pokaymanz. He got Willow and Nana the Pidgeys on his first two routes while I picked up Isabella the Pidgey and Chompers the Rattata, who I have yet to use in battle because screw that. Fork went to catch a pokayman left of Viridian, but after killing a Mankey he ended up having to face his rival. I thought he'd be done at this point because he only had a level 7 Bulbasaur compared to Cletus's (the name of both of our rivals) level 9 Pidgey and Charmander, who had Gust and Ember. Of course, they were too dumb to use those moves so Leech Seed got them. I ended up getting a Spearow on that route who I named Downy (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?) because f*** Spearow. I had trained for my rival fight, so Bruce dominated the Pidgey and Isabella one-hit Bulbasaur. I went on into Viridian Forest, as Fork was already ahead of me and had caught Jerry the Weedle. Walking into the grass, I covered the screen with my hand and yelled "DADDY NEEDS A NEW PAIR OF PIKACHU" and Fork looked over and was like "Really?" so I took my hand off and BAM PIKACHU. He's named Tank. And he's legitimate, unlike yours. >_>

So after Isabella wrecked everything inside the forest, I left and went to wreck Brock's face (by the way, the route after the forest is also Route 2, so if you caught something in the patch before Viridian it's illegal to catch there. If you bought the Magikarp on Route 4, you also can't catch anything once you leave Mt. Moon. I'm looking at you, Shikki) with Bruce. Dominating all the trainers left me with a Pidgeotto and a Wartortle, and I got another goddamn Spearow. Named it Snooki. I was about to buy that Magikarp, but then Fork told me that Route 4 continued past the cave so I decided against it. Caught Reginald the Zubat inside Mt. Moon and got Tank tons of levels by killing Zubats. After exiting with my worthless fossil, I caught a Mankey in the grass outside the cave. Got me Victoire the Mankey. I trained Tank a bit more to handle Cletus's Pidgeotto and went to wreck him. Tank one-hit Pidgeotto and Abra, Bruce one-hit Rattata, and Isabella one-hit Bulbasaur. What a scrub. Time to go get an Abra. Isabella soloed Nugget Bridge. I went left first, which was Route 24. Dammit, a Weedle. Oh well. Your name will be Madison. Now right, to Route 25. GOD DAMMIT WEEDLE. YOUR NAME WILL BE "ME AGAIN" BECAUSE YOU'RE A DUMB PIECE OF S***. Time to go look at Bill's pokedex and get info on all the eeveelutions OH COME ON BILL YOU'RE BREAKING MY BALLS HERE WHERE'S YOUR POKEDEX OH A TICKET OKAY. Now time to let Tank dominate Cerulean Gym. Akshuly, I should go now.

And now it's today.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on August 02, 2011, 12:40:45 AM
Like I said, I didn't catch anything in the patch right before Mt. Moon or after, and I did put Peter in the Cemetery, remember?

Let Tank get to lvl 24 before you do Cerulean Gym. That Starmie is tough.

Grinding at the moment, trying to get my team to all 50+ before I go through Victory Road.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge

I entered Sapphire's VR with level 45s. You get a lot of levels by going through it.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on August 02, 2011, 03:38:28 AM
I really want a Dragonite by the time I'm out. If I grind now, and then go in with a 50 Dragonair, I'll come out with a Dragonite by the end. Besides, I can take the Elite Four with all lvl 50s. They're not that strong when you think about it. Speed is the only factor as long as you've got the proper types on your team.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on August 02, 2011, 03:51:10 AM
Red/Blue and their remakes have the hardest Elite 4 and Champ, akshuly. The Champion is the only one that has no type.

Still pretty easy.

Electric/Fire.
Psychic/Flying/Water.
Psychic.
Ice/Water/Dragon.
Electric/Fire/Ground/Water.

I've got those all covered.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on August 02, 2011, 04:04:18 AM
All the Nuzlockes I've read suggest that Gary wrecks teams. Most people lose at least 3 people.

Of course, they're also the kind of people who lose like 4-5 during the regular plot, and not even due to crits or OHKOs. Just because they're not as pro as us.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on August 02, 2011, 04:10:00 AM
You always lead with an Electric for Gary. He sends out Pidgeot first no matter what.

After that, it's a simply matter of switching to the appropriate type and using moves that will OHKO or 2HKO them. As long as you're not dumb about it and use something besides your strongest attack, you're set.

Also, it's why I make sure I always have a Pokemon with an electric attack in reserve [Dragonite + Thunder doesn't go in until Blastoise comes out if Rickey goes down.]. Blastoise does most of the wrecking for teams with a Charizard, since he's got ridiculous defense and Hydro Pump is strong against almost anything you'd get in your average nuzlocke.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on August 02, 2011, 04:22:12 AM
Akshuly, if you watch that one episode, Ash's Charizard wins him the match by taking out Gary's Blastoise. Both of them took out 3 pokaymanz each.

Route 12 and 16 I think.

Don't catch anything in that area, and don't fish after going through Lavender Town. Then the one right after Celadon City.

I never skipped Surge.

I got my Rickey up to 24, killed Misty's Starmie, and then went straight to Surge. I think it was Rocco that destroyed him with ease.

It was Sabrina that I skipped.

I'm thinking about not using repel in Mt. Ember this time, and getting something there instead of going for that Moltres before going back to Viridian.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on August 03, 2011, 08:21:49 PM
Moltres isn't that good. Articuno just looks cool and provides Ice typing if you never managed to get one, and Zapdos is the best stats/movepool-wise.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on August 04, 2011, 12:08:33 AM
Drill peck is ridiculously strong.

I just like Moltres for the trio. Plus, it's useful to have as a higher level pokemon that knows fly, for when I stop taking my Pidgeot with me.

Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on August 04, 2011, 12:31:57 AM
Of course. Right now I'm debating whether or not to evolve Gloom into Vileplume or wait for it to get more moves.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on August 04, 2011, 12:32:40 AM
Moves, depending on which are left/if you can use TMs to get them instead.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: hiro on August 04, 2011, 12:36:18 AM
I have yet to use a TM, so I'm not too worried. The attacking moves it'll have in the endgame will be Petal Dance and Solarbeam, but it doesn't learn Petal Dance until 44 so it'd be a pain to level it with just one move.

But leveling as a Gloom is also obnoxious. I'd only get Moonlight again, probably.
Title: Re: Nuzlocke Challenge
Post by: Shikki on August 04, 2011, 12:43:21 AM
I'm not a fan of Petal Dance. I don't think I actually have any grass types that I use. I rarely do... Also, you can't get an Oddish in Leaf Green. It's a fire red one, just like Growlithe.

SO THERE I WAS.

AT 2 AM

Bored, and I didn't feel like getting back on my laptop. And nothing was on tv.

So, I whipped out my SP.

Grinded everyone a bit so they'd level up. Got everyone to over 50.

Went and took down the Elite Four.

Lorelei:
Rickey - Thunderbolt
Dewgong - Safeguard
Rickey - Kills Dewgong, thunderbolts Cloyster, Kills Cloyster, Thunderbolts Slowbro
Slowbro - Amnesia
Rickey - Kills Slowbro, Thunderbolts Lapras
Lapras - Confuse Ray
Rickey - Kills Lapras
Charlie - Blast Burn OHKO on Jynx.

Bruno:
Dumbledore - Kills Onix, Kills Hitmonchan, Wing Attacks Machamp
Machamp - Bulk Up
Dumbledore - Kills Machamp, Kills Hitmonlee, Kills Onix

Agatha:
Priscilla - Psychic
Gengar - Toxic
Priscilla - Kills Gengar
Charlie - Flamethrower
Arbok - Poison Fang
Charlie - Kills Arbok
Rickey - Thunderbolt, kills Golbat
Charlie - Flamethrower, Kills Gengar
Priscilla - Psychic [Because Charlie got poisoned by Arbok, and I didn't want to heal him mid-battle.]
Haunter - Curse, kills self.

Lance:
Rickey - Thunderbolt, Kills Gyarados
Dumbledore - Kills Dragonair, Kills other Dragonair, Blizzards Dragonite
Dragonite - Something dumb
Dumbledore - Kills Dragonite, Surf on Aerodactyl
Aerodactyl - Keeps using Ancient Power, and raising his stats after each hit, so I have to keep healing Dumbledore, then I finally swap over to Rickey
Rickey - Thunderbolt
Aerodactyl - Hyper Beam
Swap to Rocco
Aerodactyl - Hyper Beam
Rocco - Rock Slide, Kills Aerodactyl

This is where I saved for the first time against the Elite Four, but forgot to heal, and so I reset during my battle with Douche, after realizing Dumbledore would die if it took even the smallest hit when swapping out to another.

Douche:
Rickey - Thunderbolt
Pidgeot - Sand Attack
Rickey - Kills, swap out to Dumbledore
Dumbledore - Kills Rhydon
Swap back to Rickey
Rickey - Thunderbolt
Blastoise - Hydro Pump
Rickey - Kills Blastoise
Swap to Charlie
Alakazam - Reflect [Raised defense and Special Defense my butt.]
Charlie - Kills Alakazam.
Swap to Dumbledore
Arcanine - Extremespeed
Dumbledore - Kills Arcanine
Swap back to Charlie
Charlie - Blast Burn OHKO to win it all.

Post by: hiro on August 14, 2011, 08:00:15 AM
I was going for the other word, but if it is a female then you'd be correct as well. >_>

It's a Shiba Inu, and I'm getting one as soon as I can. And naming him Octavius.

Didn't count the stars.

But it looks like a female.

Post by: hiro on August 14, 2011, 08:02:25 AM
It looks like it's cowering, akshuly. Which makes me feel bad about using it as a reaction image. But it's still one fancy dog. >_>

A Shiba Inu looks like a husky. But it's much smaller. >_>

And has a swirly tail.

Huskies are beautiful creatures though.

Have you ever looked one in the eye?

Especially a puppy. I got to play with a puppy Husky that was rescued that had the most beautiful grey-blue eyes ever.

Dude, I spent the first ten years of my life trying to get a Husky. >_>

I befriended some kid only because he had two of them.

And when Fork actually got Nintendogs I actually played for a few hours just because I got a Husky.

I shall have a Shiba Inu and a Husky. And they shall be Octavius and Maximilian. And if one is female she'll be Winona.
