Title: Blindness
Post by: Suishou Koji on November 09, 2016, 08:51:41 AM
This is a question I've been really curious about and I feel like I should ask the community about it. May or may not have character that is currently blind.

If someone is blind, are they effected at all by Doujustu? Example: Sharingan Genjustu

I don't see a reason why any Genjutsu would effect the blind. Anything relatable to sight literally flies over their head. Though, I believe this would cause the other senses to be (probably) 20% more susceptible to harm since they'll be stronger with the lost of sight. Though, I could be wrong. It would be awesome to see a blind shinobi/kunoichi beating people up :D

I RP'd with a guy who had a blind character and he was still affected by genjutsu triggered by the other senses. It'd be hard to pull off a blind character I think, but at the same time, every character seems to have some sort of extrasensory perception so it's not like they really need their eyes lol

Some things I want to say:

Being legally blind doesn't mean you see nothing.
Blind people's eye still function normal. Most have their eyes open and blink like the rest of us.
Some genjutsu work by placing your chakra into your opponent

So it's a yes and no.

Recall Itachi. When using Ephemeral on Naruto he used his finger as a medium. That wouldn't work on a blind person. However he can use Mirage Crow without eye contact. That would work on a blind person.

If it specifically says eye contact is required I'd say it doesn't work on a blind person. It's like pointing a laser into a completely blind person's eye or flashing a bright light. It won't work on them.

Have to pay homage to the original blind warrior (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0sp9juvkwA) and his flashing sword cut.

Back on topic, having a blind character is a tricky slope to climb due to loopholes that both scenarios provide, being blind will have it's benefits and negatives in this case. Don't get wrong, I actually played a blind character before on another forum and done it before on this server; the experience was tricky with all the power-ups out there that can basically screw you over.

Genjutsu that doesn't target the sense of sight is one of those trump cards that anyone can pull on the latter, then we have Sage Mode and that pretty much seals the deal.

If you're blind (completely blind), you can't be affected by visual genjutsu, period. However, since neighboring brain regions will begin to occupy the brain maps responsible for visual processing, they likely will be more susceptible to genjutsu that affect other senses, particularly hearing.
