Title: How Often Should Elections Be Held? VOTE
Post by: Ace on December 04, 2015, 06:10:49 AM
How often should council elections be held?
Do not digress, keep it short and sweet.

Once most, if not all have posted, verdict will be recorded.

I will start...

3 months

EDIT: Will change to 4 months.

6 months. 3 is too short. I don't want to see people campaigning every 2 months we get enough of that irl.

I would say 4 months myself.

If it comes to between 3 or 6 though I choose 3.

6 months; it gives people enough time to learn how to handle discussions, etc etc.

I like 6 months.

we need some stability. elections take time. twice a year seems good.
if it is not...we can hash it out later? We do have other things to do besides bijuu stuff.

6 months. It's a good amount of time for people to do things.

Six months is good. Longer time to work on matters that may be sticky.

I am somewhat reserved of judgment on this, leaning mostly to six months.

I am leaning towards...four months. It gives an even rotation on council should that particular member decide they don't want to be part of the group or have moved onto better things; namely life issues. Six months is *waaaaay* too long in my opinion.

What Camel said. Four months allows for three different rotations for the entire year, so four months. Six is too long. You guys are looking at like it's the Presidency for the U.S. and you shouldn't be doing that. Why? Because nobody gets paid for this, so elects are more likely to leave if something comes up, so if it's 6 months then and someone leaves on the forth, then we're either forced to reelect early or stuck with whoever is left.

So, again: Four Months.

I want to actually put forth one-two month for the process of candidate picking, electing, presentation, and "inaugruation" (but will go for the lowest month level that has a fair shot of actually winning if need be).

Why one-two month(s)? Well, real life happens, and some months are busier than others. I'm talking August-September (beginning of school for some) and December-January (Holidays and School). There shouldn't be any real-life-styled campaigning for this sort of thing. We can get to rules and regulations on how candidates can present themselves, but we don't want to turn these elections into a political match lit whenever.

If a Council member is doing good, then they'll get re-elected; plain and simple. Stability would only be a major issue if the Council members are seen not to be up to snuff by the end of the month, in which case we wouldn't want them to be staying in for months at a time, especially if there is not an impeachment process in place (or rather, if we choose to even have one).

Being on the Council should be a prize of sorts that doesn't have the chance of creating an oligarchic of sorts. If frequent rotation is needed that should be given as an option; if not, incumbents can get re-elected no sweat.

Truthfully though, the actual process of elections (how long are they going to be permitted to be "campaigning", what kind of "campaigning" is even permitted, etc.) is a really important factor in all of this.

Now at the end, I think I want to put a firm vote on 2 months (cause I don't see too many people agreeing to 1 month, plus the full election process could take quite alot of time if lengthy stuff is allowed).

I was leaning towards 6 months but Nathan has a point. We want to people to have as much experience and to grow/learn from this. Being part a council is essential being part of team. You learn teamwork, communication, and other qualities. I know it sounds corny. So I'm voting for 4 months.

However no one can repeat a term back to back. 'New' faces every rotation.

I think the voting thing can be done in 1 month. I can't imagine it being longer than the GM process.

1 wk to nominate
1 wk to campaign
1 wk to vote
1 wk to decide

The hard part is the campaigning. Speech or Application?
How was the last council formed? o.o

I say 6 months, because if we go for anything less, we will run out of new faces within the second term. Face it, we don't really get all that many new players who intend to stick around long enough to become well versed in the site and community to the point that being a part of the council will ever cross their minds.

Well this can be an opportunity for them and a reason to stick around (in game and in the forums). If elected, they'll get more involved. Maybe it'll be a good idea to have ONE council member who is relatively new BUT is knowledgeable about Naruto, open-minded, approachable, and mature. -shrug- Never know.

6 months

Imo this should apply even if a replacement is picked in the middle of 6 or something, so everyones always picked at same time. Less convoluted.
