Nor any others that interfere, should count against my PVP record.

Spam / Help me find new anime
« on: September 17, 2008, 07:02:29 AM »
Preface:  This will be a rambling rant.  I am not judging other people's tastes, only stating mine.

Okay, during the evolution of the "Battle of the Anime" thread, I have been exposed to many titles I had never heard before.  I would like to explore some new titles, but I have to be very selective due to time constraints - I don't want to waste time on something I am unlikely to like.

That being said, here is what I do like (in no particular order):
  • Naruto (not the fillers)
  • Naruto: Shippuuden (not the fillers)
  • Naruto:  Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
  • Akira
  • Ninja Scroll (not the series or sequels)
  • Ghost in the Shell (not the series or sequels)
  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Cowboy Bebop: The Movie
  • Samurai Champloo
  • Most (if not all) Hayou Miyazaki movies that I have seen (is this considered anime for the purpose of this discussion?)
  • Most (if not all) Makoto Shinkai movies that I have seen
  • Grave of the Fireflies

And here is what I do not like:
  • Dragon Ball (and all derivatives)
  • Yu Gi Oh (and all derivatives for similar reasons as DB)
  • Bleach (for the same reasons as above, though I have kind of soften my feeling towards it a bit)
  • Naruto & Shippuuden Fillers
  • All Naruto Movies (except the first one)

There are probably more that go on both lists, but this is what I recall at the moment.  As mentioned, I am not judging anyone else's tastes, just exposing mine.

The reasons *I THINK* for the divisions above:

I like character development and exposition.  In fact, I require it.  The fight scenes could really be over in 10 minutes (if adequately explained) and I would be fine.  I do not need infinite power ups, ultimate moves, etc.

I want an interesting story with interesting characters.

I do not need any gratuitous violence or nudity.  I do not mind either, but excessive amounts and/or for gratuitous reasons is likely to be a deal breaker.

As a rule, I am not to big a fan of "Mecha".

I am currently struggling my way through NGE.  I am on Episode 7, and it is just starting to get remotely interesting, character wise.  The only reason I did not punch out sooner is a friend of mine, for whom I have immense respect, recommended it to me.

Here is what Amazon is recommending based on my ratings of some products and purchasing of others:

Ghost in the Shell:  SAC (Seasons 1 & 2)
FLCL
Ghost in the Shell: 2  Innocence
Paprika
Trigun
Kino's Journey
Pom Poko
Elfen Lied
Outlaw Star (I tried it once, and was not compelled)
Origin:  Spirits of the Past
Karas:  The Revelation
Full Metal Panic
Vexville
Planetes

Any advice on the above, or things not listed would be greatly appreciated.

And if you do, which area?

(Feel free to answer for other people you know live there but might not be on to answer the question).

Purpose of Event:
To reset PKs to 0 (atonement) -or- To reset evil alignment to neutral (purification) -or- to reset good alignment to neutral (contamination).

Possible event text:

As you make your way through the forest, you come across a monk.  The monk has an aura that is palpable and becomes borderline oppressive as you continue your approach.  You feel you have no choice but to continue moving towards the figure, despite wanting to stop and survey the situation a bit more before making a decision.  Your body continues its movement toward the spiritual figure without listening to your desire to stop.

The figure speaks, "Greetings shinobi/kunoichi!  I offer you the ability to atone for your past sins or purify your soul.  Atonement will erase the record of your past sins when you killed innocents.  Purification will restore you spiritually.

Of course, you may already think of yourself as pure or do not think you have committed injustice for which you should atone.  In that case, you may simply choose to continue on your path.  Which do you choose?"

Navigation:
(a)Atone for past sins
(b)Seek Purification
(c)Continue

(a)
50% chance having PKs reduced to 0.  Up to 10 gems (10 or all if less than 10) & all gold 'donated' for successful atonement
50% chance of no such reduction.

100% chance of going to shades with NO torments but NO exp lost.

(b)
50% chance of having alignment reset to neutral.  Loss of 5-10 perm HP for successful spiritual rebirth (alignment reset).
50% chance of no such reset.

100% chance of going to shades, with full torments but 10% loss of exp.

(c)90%chance - you leave unharmed 10%chance - you are shaken up by the meeting and passout, loosing 2 forest fights.

Thoughts:

I realize this event is tailored to very few individuals.  So, the effort might not be worth it.

Also, it might be better as a traveling shop, a la Crazy Audrey (but much more rare).

I do not have the text for the outcomes yet, if someone would like to flesh that out.  I personally am kinda waiting until a "possible" or "no way" is issue from Neji before proceeding.

I had initially thought of having two separate events, with two separate characters depending on which alignment you might want to reset (good or evil) but I could not figure out the 'evil' figure, that would contaminate a good alignment back to neutral, but would also allow for atonement.  The event as written now is written from the perspective of a "good" figure, that would purify the spirit and allow for atonement of sins.

Basically, my goal is to give players a mechanism to return to alignment neutrality and erase from the record their past sins (PKs).

Got this at the beginning of a new day:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING, expecting ')' in /var/www/html/naruto/modules/marriage.php on line 803

I WAS able to "refresh" and get past it.

Picking my new country gave the following bug:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /var/www/html/naruto/modules/kagetitles.php on line 157

(This was the URL: https://shinobilegends.com/newday.php?setrace=Leaf&c=11-145437)

A refresh did NOT help.

I closed my browser, went to shinobilegends.com again, where I was presented with the option to pick my country again, and same error.

Feature Requests / Chakra at a glance?
« on: October 04, 2007, 05:38:02 PM »
Would it be possible to be able to see how much chakra your character has without fighting in the forest, a special event or winning a fight with your trainer/master?

You would not be able to use them or activate them, just see what you had.  The 5/5 would be accurately updated, same as if you were in a fight.

Of course, I fear the dreaded "beware the server load", which I completely understand if this would cause an issue there.

Something like this:

The first image is how it might appear on the main page, the second, how it might appear while in the forest.

***** Time Constraints *****

If this is relatively easy to do and acceptable, then great.  But there are many other worthy causes, including one near and dear to my heart and I don't want this bad enough to take away valuable resources from it.

Feature Requests / Good Ideas / Bad Ideas - Ideas either way
« on: July 12, 2007, 03:42:01 PM »
 * In Konoha only, Battle Arena becomes Lee's Dojo.  Opponent line-up might need to change.

 * Added benefit of dwelling: If you wake up in a dwelling, you do not START your gameday (meaning, any forest fights/travels from donation points - and other things like that - are not invoked) until you LEAVE your dwelling.  This would allow full access to your dwelling and mail system (posting on your dwelling's wall, accessing your dwellings coffers [obviously, you still could not deposit/withdraw from the bank], conducting Dwelling Management type functions, etc.) as well as FULL access to your mail (not just receiving mail in your private, off-site email address, but answering those messages as well).

 * If you are born in Leaf, and Good, you should never fight certain enemies.  Same goes for other Village/Alignment combinations.  Certain, "Something Special" events, of course, should still apply (Peeking, Oro, etc.)

 * A specific, "Something Special" event involving Zabuza & Haku (tougher than their current, "found in the forest" equivalents).

 * Some tweaking to the current PvP system.  I understand that Oliver does not want it to be "calculable", but in my opinion, the alignment of the initiator and the alignment of the target should play a role in determining any alignment implications.

Again, just my opinion.

Feature Requests / Selective Login?
« on: May 31, 2007, 11:35:38 AM »
I did a brief search of the forum, not exactly sure which keywords would search the best, and found nothing.

I propose this under the following premises:  there is a social element to this game and some characters have donation Kyuubi, Forest Fights / Travels purchased from donation points.

I was wondering if there was a possibility of logging in (and thus, taking one of the 160 available slots) but NOT starting a new gameday right away.  Specifically, I would like a similar screen to just after a DK, with much less & different text, of course.  This page would have a "Start your new day" hyperlink instead of the "Its a new day" hyperlink (that is found after a DK).

The purpose for this would be to enable someone to check their mail without potentially wasting the above mentioned purchased bonuses.  This might occur when someone has just a few minutes before leaving on an airplane, train, etc. -OR- if someone logs in with just a few minutes left before the new 8hr gameday begins.

IF this is possible (and deemed to not be too time consuming), can it be considered?  Is it a bad idea and I am just not seeing it?

Bugreports / Module, attempt to be injected?

Strolling through the forest, in Fire Country (if that matters?) and came upon:

Something Special!

Module penguinlady is not active, but was attempted to be injected.

Not sure if that is a bug or not.

Discussions / Are there inconsistencies with the Baluski event?P
« on: March 28, 2007, 08:16:08 PM »
Please forgive me if this topic should have been handled differently.  I thought about replying to an already existing thread that pertained to this (in a way) but it was old and I have seen complaints about bumping old threads.

Anyway.

When I get the Baluski event, it takes me down to different levels everytime.  Is there even a basic formula to figure out how much I should have?  I thought I knew (not the formula, but my HP ceiling at my current DK level) but as I said before, it has been inconsistent lately (and luck has me getting the event more lately as well).

I can provide more details, such as my level, the amount of HP I started with and what it took me down to.  We are not talking about massive shifts, but sometimes, a few HP can make a difference.

Thanks in advance.
