I think this auto ban for failing too many login attemps is unfair,I only messed up one and I still got banned.I don't think I should be banned from my own account just because of a mis-spelling.so I'm basically being punished for trying to log back onto my own account. Now is it just me,or does anyone else find that completely messed up?
-
It's a safety precaution to keep others from guessing someone's passwords with unlimited tries.
-
I think it is 10 times or so before you get a ban, correct me if I'm wrong.
Plenty of tries to get your password right.
Use the search function as well to see similar topics related to yours please.
You might be able to petition it in, or your ban might get lifted depending on what Neji or the other staff members say.
-
if its ten tries, then why did I get banned on the first one?...and I know its a safety precaution but it shouldn't get the account owner banned
-
have you messed up in the past?
and come on, computers can't tell who's the account owner.
-
I've only messed up once or twice in the past...there has to be some way to convince the mods to lift this ban
-
Nope, wouldn't make sense to lift it...

And a bunch more just like it...
-
But this isn't fair....I don't deserve to be banned....I've never broken the rules before...well I got muted once but thats about it
-
stop complaining ._.
petition it or wait it out
-
I have petitioned it....when I get back on...wether they lift the ban or not,I'm gonna pm Neji and see if we can find something to replace this automatic ban thing...like a security question or something....I think it will benefit everyone
-
A security question.
You mean, an option to prevent password guessing by brute force should be replaced by a security question that can very well be brute forced or even EASIER guessed?
You don't want a game that has a "what's your password" and "what's your secret hair color" question ...
We have had accounts that WERE brute forced (naruto characters as passwords, and as "naruto" made BING they got hold of the char).
I imagine you will then again complain after such a question "waah, my char is lost! why?? why did you not make it safer?"
No, it is a no-go.
-
you could have us make our own questions, like something we're absolutly positive that only we'would know...unless we tell someone
-
Your own fault, so stop complaining.
Oh, and something else to say... "HA-HA!"
-
actually,is not my fault...its who ever else used my IP adress...they're to blame for failing their logins so much...I just happened to be the last one ><...and my ban is suposed to be over by now....
-
ban is over after the game day you were banned on I think.
and jeeze, stop complaining already ._.
-
I'm not complaining anymore, but if I have to wait till the game day I was banned on...that means I gotta wait till after 8:00 here
-
oh,and its only 2:30 right now
-
well wait ._.
-
I wouldn't mind that wait, but I probably won't be able to log on at that time....and that makes me mad cause I've been waiting since midnight...I won't have a chance to do anything, thats why I keep petitioning to get it lifted earlier...
-
Petitioning over and over again will not help your chances of getting the ban lifted early.
You will just have to wait.
-
I need to be lifted soon though,I strongly doubt I'll still be on at 8:00
-
well go on tommorow.
come on, you hve a life correct?
-
this still sounds like complaining.
-
I guess I'll have to wait till tommorow...and quit complaining about my complaining
-
It happens to the best of us. Best thing you can do is write down your passwords somewhere safe or get a password organizing program.
-
or, have the password saved so that each time that you type in your username, the password will pop up with it >.>
-
LMAO i swear ive never seen someone complain so much in my life
-
blame your provider for sharing your IP with many others :D
that's the most likely reason.
-
Like others said, just write down your password somewhere and just be careful when you type next time. To be banned by too many misspellings sucks. I've been locked out of my account once or twice because I forgot mine as well, but you just wait it out. xD
-
So even if other people on another computer who knows youre username tries to guess your password you still get banned?
Temporarily right if so then how long?

I applaud your wonderful reading skills.
Firefox can save your password the next time you enter it. From that point on, Firefox remembers it for as long as you like.
If you don't have Firefox, get it.
-
Just a note:
Safari can do that same thing.
-
heck, if I remember correctly, even IE could do that ._.
-
24h
that's why you should never let people on your pc.
or delete your information from that computer (firefox has such a feature)

If you are in, I don't know - say Texas . . . and someone in, I don't know - say China types in your username and tries to guess your password, their IP would be banned - not yours.
If you use a provider that shares IPs (like AOL), you could theoretically be in different states and the same scenario as above could cause both of you to be banned.
At least, that is my current understanding of how it works.
-
Right.
-
It's happened to me before, but only for three days.
My advice: Just wait it out! No one likes a complainer. Not only does it rarely get anyone anywhere, it lowers that person's rep. Trust me Azarik, you don't want the reputation that I have for being notorious for things, among which are complaining when things don't go my way. Even doing it for one day can scar your rep to a point that it takes months to gain back your respect. And for Pete's sake it's a RPG! Life won't end if you get banned for a few days from SL... :-?
