I am honestly mentioning something that may well happen.
Think about it, Madara's brother had Mangekyou, so he gained the power of both.
Sasuke doesn't have Mangekyou, so Itachi wouldn't gain anything.
And since we don't know what exactly you are supposed to do when you pluck out the eyes, there may be something involved.

Yes, i mean, why should Itachi gain the power of Madara?
Maybe the Other zetsu is Talking to Pein, or Konan right now, and then Attacks Itachi, from the command of Pein.. or Konan.

lemme edit my post.Zetsu attacks itachi,and beats him.Then zetsu disappears,leaving sasuke,with a badly wounded itachi.So sasuke takes the eyes from itachi >.<

Ny opinion on next chaper.
Either
1.They go back to Naruto and Tobi/Madara to keep up the suspense
2.Sasuke escapes and either kills itachi or continues the fight. No way they ended the fight that early.

Kishimoto has said that Sasuke is his favorite character to draw.
As an artist, he won't kill off his favorite character.

i'm guessing pretty close if he is going after sasuke. And i don't think madara literally plucked his eyes out, i think he might have only done it through genjutusu. And by doing it through genjutsu he only took the spirit of the sharingan, not his brothers eyes.

I think Kishimoto is just trying to do a 'plot twist' so it will seem good when sasuke kills Itachi. But sence he has no writting ability, it doesn't work.

Itachi won't kill Sasuke or steal his eyes because Sasuke doesn't even have Mangekyou yet.
Itachi isn't THAT stupd. It's probably just another genjutsu or Tsukiyom. I guess the prior, seeing how Itachi has had his mangekyou running the whole fight.

But sasuke acn't mangekyou because that would involve killing Naruto, which woun't work sence he's teh main charrie and all.

Maybe sasuke can use mangekyou...we still don't know all the requirements for it, kakashi got it...It might not even be that dramatic, It might just be a shadow clone of sasuke, or Itachi might get only one of sasuke's eyes...

Injuries in Naruto do not make any sense ever.
Think about it, in the first episode, Iruka got a giant Shuriken inbedded into his SPINE, and was perfectly okay.
