Title: Hero's Guild: Spooky Scary Skeletons
Post by: Hazama on January 04, 2016, 08:55:18 PM
As night came over the sky, dark powers began to stir outside of Carne Village, and inside the Cemetery. The cemetery was large in size, having carried Carne Village's dead since people built the town, which was some time ago. Of course, countless graves of mostly the same size covered the grounds, though there were a dozen or so large grave stones spread here and there and fewer, small buildings that housed a few corpses in them, mostly mayors or important people of Carne Village. There was a mausoleum to match the Cemetery at the far side of the entrance through the gates, where the corpses of the warriors or militiamen Carne Village once had were buried safely.

Soil shifted, bones creaked, and activity started in the Cemetery. Corpses, most which were skeletons with tattered clothing on them, patrolled the graveyard. Some of the corpses still had decaying flesh or muscle on them, giving off horrible and sickening smells, as well as being a horrific sight to behold.

The air seemed thick over the whole cemetery, and had an odd sensation throughout the air. What could cause the dead to rise?

Masane reached the village and knew she was in the right place. The thick sickening smell of the rotting bodies filled the air. She clutched her long bow as a small clay arrow slid from the mouth on her palm.
She followed the smell to the grave yard and what she saw nearly scared her so bad her hair could have turned white. Masane crouched behind a tree hoping that the wandering dead would not spot her. Hopefully steel would soon arrive so she would not have to sneak around alone. Though if need be the girl could be very sneaky. For now she would just watch, counting the undead trying to get an idea of what she was up against.

(Because this quest hadn't fully been started, I'm stepping in)

The sky had indeed fallen victim to the Moon's curse. Casting it's counterpart, the Sun, into temporary exile so that it could have its time to rule the night. Monsters and evildoers were subjects to the Moon's rule over the land and as the last flicker of light left the cemetery, the creatures in that certain domain returned to life.

Jay would find himself neck deep in the vile stench and thick, and overall, malicious intent that seemed to fill the air. The Nara, might have bit off more than he could chew with his utter disdain he had for the dark. A little girl from his past had been correct when she stated that she wasn't afraid of the dark, she was more afraid of what was inside the dark. Since she said that, the Nara had constantly found himself fighting monsters in such darkness, to the point that he had to grow accustomed to fighting blindly. A hair trigger had developed over the years and doing this alone was the best course of action he could take.

Atop the Carne Cemetery sign at the entrance, he would position himself. Out in the open, but shrouded in a dark blue cloak and hood that made him blend in with the dark blue sky above. A true ninja tactic, but a dramatic position he had taken to make his entrance. "I never understood the living dead. How could they live... if they're dead?" With that thought in his mind, he prepared himself for what was to come.

The cemetery wasn't just overwhelmed with the disgusting smells of decaying corpses, but also with the disturbing sound of clattering bones, or moving flesh. When they had mentioned that the place was overrun at night, they hadn't been exaggerating. The graveyard was almost covered in undead patrolling the area, but there was something unsettling about the monsters roaming the grounds, something one couldn't put their finger one.

But, one could tell that there was a deep and dark energy emanating from the large mausoleum that rested deep on the grounds of the graveyard. And if that wasn't enough of a sign, the numbers of undead increased the closer one would get to the building. This was going to be a lot more difficult than Jay originally thought.

Jay smiled under the hood of his cloak as he looked at the plethora of undead that filled the cemetery. He paid little mind to the dank stench that filled the air, nor the sight of the decomposing flesh slipping from walking corpses. He was a warrior. No matter the situation, no matter the field, He would persevere.

But running in there, daggers swinging widely, was not the best of options at the moment. Despite how exciting that sounded, he was Nara, smart and calculating. There were questions to this situation that needed answering. What was causing the undead to be undead? What exactly was he sensing in the air? Nature Energy? Corrupted Energy? A demonic figure controlling things behind the curtains? Something just wasn't right in this situation.

He peered his golden hues out towards the entirety of all that was in sight. They all seemed to be guarding the large building, simply from the fact that they seemed to be more crowded in that general area of the cemetery. It was a mistake to seal his bow and arrows in a scroll. If these things could sense chakra, they would no doubt sense their release. This made him think about his daggers and where he got them. Of course, when his thoughts turned towards the thief from his previous mission, it turned to the amulet around his neck and wondered why it had stopped working. "Whatever, the undead don't have minds to fool."

For now, the Nara would continue to watch the undead, though he would began to circle around the perimeter. Ice and Shadow would be his friends, all he would need to do would be to keep watch of his chakra levels and make sure things didn't go too out of hand during the mission. Tactical retreats were going to be necessary, he has to know that.

There wasn't much to be said about the skeletons that roamed the grounds. On the outer layers farthest from the building, the undead fell into basic patterns of patrolling and walking in circles. In the middle layers, their numbers nearly double, very few breaks throughout each patrol. But it didn't seem impossible to get through, if the man could move at just the right exact time.

Then there was the closest layers near the building, where the numbers were amassed so much there was seemingly no openings to get into the building without a fight. To get through, it was going to take something spectacular.

The man avoiding to use chakra was a smart move, whether he knew it or not. But as to why, it would come to be explained later. But the undead hadn't picked up on him just yet, even as he walked around the perimeter.

To say the Nara was surprised at the apparent superb usage of patrolling by the seemingly mindless undead, was an understatement. It more than proved that some mastermind was behind this whole spectacle. Jay made mental notes of what he seen and felt that it was nearing the time for him to act. He reached into his ninja pouch, inside his cloak, and pulled out a kunai and an exploding tag. He wrapped the tag around the handle and made sure that it was nice and tight, using a bit of saliva to make it stick close.

He thought about how he was going to proceed ahead. Perhaps, daggers swinging was just going to have to do? He returned to the entrance, after completely circling around the perimeter. Something in his head told him that he was just going to have to make sure these skeleton stay down and cant piece themselves back together. "Time to break some bones." That was such a cool line, it was a shame nobody was there to hear it but him.

It was a shame no one was around to hear it, because it wasn't that bad. But sadly for the skeletons, they were unaware of the assault that they could possible be the victim of currently. Inside the mausoleum, one could see a sudden flash and flare of purple light before it would fade once more.

As this happened, the graveyard would soon be a chorus of moans and groans, with bones shaking and rattling. Whatever this power was, the undead responded to it and returned to their duties moments later, though seemingly with slightly more purpose than they had been using before.

Wouldn't notice the flash of light, emitting from the mausoleum, but he would have to be deaf not to notice the sounds of groans and rattling bones becoming more pronounce than before. He narrowed his eyes at this development and covered his kunai with a thin film of his chakra. This would make it so that the next thing it came in contact with would end up releasing the power of the explosion. With this in mind, and hopeful no straw crows flew by, he lobbed the kunai into the air, aiming for it to land in the middle layer of the cemetery.

As soon as he did this, he grabbed hold of his cloak and tossed it aside, revealing his attire underneath. It wasn't any different from what he was wearing during the thief mission and pulled the daggers from his hips. He took a deep breath and rushed forward. As soon as he reached the first skeleton and aimed to slice it's head in half, the kunai impacted one of the skeletons ahead of him and exploded in a five meter radius.

The Kunai would have hit the mark it was intended form, not only obliterating the whole skeleton that it had come in contact with but two others that were nearby as well. Three others were caught in the radius, toss to the side and knocked apart... But with their limbs unbroken, they started to pull themselves together.

As for the Skeleton that was Jay's first target, it's head would be cut in half, the body shaking for a moment... Before it would aim to lunge blindly forward and attempt to wrap itself around Jay's body. Jay had made himself known, and now the undead knew.

All of the monsters in the immediate area screeched, glowing red lights appearing in the empty sockets of their eyes. Suddenly, the stragglers of the outer layers were starting to pile in towards Jay. Two came in first, aiming to grab the man's arms and legs from both sides at the same time, trying to be useless distractions as the horde tried to form around the man.

Jay had to give the hive-minded like undead props as they reacted in perfect coordination. The skeleton that attempted to lunge blindly wouldn't find him there as he hadn't stopped moving. He pressed forward, allowing for the hoard to surround him. Even from this distance, he found his hypothesis true, as those rattling bones ahead began to pull themselves back together.

He infused wind chakra in his daggers, for a much longer reach and crouch. He waited for them to get just a bit closer before springing back into action. Once he sprung, he began to spin, making a full 360 degree motion. The blades of wind spread outwards in five meters again, guided by his chakra, and began to slice into the bones, spraying them dust outwards in a miniature cyclone(1).

As soon as it died down, he noted that it took out a few. Deciding, not to remain in one place for too long, he jumped forward, hovering a for a moment as he looked below, being at least teen feet in the air.

As the Skeletons caught in his tornado were cut down, the horde tried to surround it once he had stopped. But as he took off into the air, he would clear himself of the first horde momentarily... Some of those in the horde would go to the fallen bodies of their brethren, doing something with the remains of their bodies.

But as he landed, the horde from before would only come from behind now and try to catch him. But not only that but they would also be driving him deeper into the larger, overall horde of them, where they got thicker closer to the building. If Jay started to move forward towards the rest, their eyes would waist no time turn red and turning their attention towards the man.

As the man landed, he stomped his foot on the ground. In the process for his next plan of action, he steeled his mind and covered his body in a film of wind chakra. He would let them come to him and in the mean time, he would find out just how they fought at close range. He wouldn't do much with the wind chakra around his frame, but it would help with lessening the natural wind resistance around a body.

As the skeletons came, he would swing, chop, turn, twist and evade to the best of his abilities. His golden hues, while not as sharp as a Sharingan, or wide ranged as a Byakugan, were still just as trained to perceive oncoming attacks of what was around him.

These skeletons were smarter than they let on originally, it seemed. The ones that were messing with the bodies from before would have 'upgraded' in a sense. Jay had cut some bones and sharpened their ends in the process, almost giving them weapon. The skeletons were much too smart for your average undead, this much was obvious at this point.

But as he would start to chop down more and avoid their tactics, more of them would become armed with weapons. They either held sharpened bones in their hands, or replaced their arms with sharpened limbs. Their taijutsu wasn't too great, even in their numbers, Jay's armor would protect him from most attacks.

But just as he was seemingly started to turn the tide of the fight, another flood of lights would leave the mausoleum and the chorus would start up again. All the bones of the deceased that couldn't be used shifted suddenly and started to fly towards each other. From the remains slowly rose a figure, a skeleton form that would be almost six feet tall. It was rugged looking, with an mishappened face and appearance. It walked awkwardly from where it was, twitching faintly as it would approach Jay.

The more that he started to leave more bones, the more they seemed to start turning into these odd monsters.

The man noticed what his actions were causing. A group of skeletons formed a much larger being. So perhaps, they all would end up into one singular skeleton? Whatever the case, it would take too long for that to work. In any case, he was too out in the open for this to truly turn in his favor. He narrowed his eyes and jumped backwards with a powerful jump. He coursed ice chakra through his daggers and sought to even the playing field, starting with the larger construct of sturdy bones.

He swung his arms outwards, releasing a gust of freezing, buffering winds that stretched 15 meters ahead of him(1) and was 8 meters wide, four meters on each side. Everything that the wind came in contact with began to freeze even as it being sliced by wind blades. "I bet you guys could use a blanket." Not a good joke, but the man couldn't help that he was still having fun.

The skeletons, even the newer ones that were larger and stronger, would be victim to the jutsu. The cold winds froze and then shattered several of the weaker skeletons while dealing some damage to the three larger ones, destroying two of them... But the third that had barely managed to survive would have grabbed two whole other skeletons, as if assimilating them to repair itself, the damaging disappearing as it 'ate' them.

That being said, the twitching thing showed a hidden amount of speed, aiming to try and come between the horde and throw itself into Jay's ribs as he came to land. Just as the goal had always been, the thing aimed to use it's bigger form and greater strength to send the man tumble on the ground and into the horde so that they could not only pile on top of him but begin to tear him apart as well.

But even for all the skeletons that Jay was destroying, it still seemed like there was almost two to replace the one he killed. Especially now that he was in the middle sections, all three layers started to converge on his point..

This S*** had quickly began to become more intense as things progressed further. Thanks to the film of wind chakra around him, his body was able to move at an enhanced rate. It was only because of this that he managed to shield himself as he came to a land. He would take the hit and be sent back a few feet. He didn't have time to muster up a surprised thought at the speed it exhibited for something that didn't have muscles that were in proper working order.

He moved quickly and instinctually did a back flip over a single skeleton, landing on the brittle shoulders of another, before jumping forward back towards the hulking skeleton. He let out a roar as he aimed to strike the skeleton square in the chest with a wind covered fist.

Once it connected, he would release a small cyclone of wind that would only encompass the larger skeleton(1). He knew there seemed to be no end to onslaught of undead around him. Whatever the case, he needed to get inside that mausoleum quick. But for now, he would need to plan for his first tactical retreat.

Things had gone to hell and fast for the man but as he preformed his successful set of acrobatics, there would be nothing stopping the fist from crashing into the large skeleton. The cyclone would send him backwards and tear it apart in the process, picking up a few others and tearing them apart in the process and tossing a few to the side.

Of course the horde had started to form a large circle around his area. One Skeleton came towards him, no two. Three. The numbers and angles that the Skeletons were starting to throw themselves at the man to try and drag him to the ground were starting to simply become overwhelming. And the fact that the man had only made it to the middle of everything and not even to the final wave was saying something about this mission.

Any of the undead that may be slain would only be climbed over by their fellow bone-men, their will and dedication to trying to get their hands on Jay seemingly increasing with every second that the night was going on. And the longer that they were aggro'd on him.

Aggro. That was such an accurate description for what the lone Nara was holding since the start of this mission. And the best way to get rid of such intense attention was misdirection. This was what teammates were for, unfortunately he had nobody to lay down the necessary suppressive fire. But again, this only made him all the more excited.

The Skeletons around him rushed him and he acted on instinct. Using a high speed technique(1), he vanished from his position. Because it was a high speed technique, and not a space-time technique, he managed to carve his way through the skeletons between his previous position and the entrance to the cemetery. As he reappeared under the sign of the cemetery, he twirled his daggers and holstered them on his hips.

As soon as he did that, the skeletons in that straight line he traversed to get where he was, exploded in cyclones of wind blades(2). He turned his head to check out his handy work and smirked. ”Me thinks I need to think of a better gameplan.” He knew the skeleton’s were smarter than he previously suspected, so he returned his attention to his tactical retreat and swept his cloak from the ground and vanished in another body flicker, this time reappearing in another section of the perimeter. Once he did that, he immediately begun suppressing his chakra signature and continued to run around, now in the process of completing his desired half circle around the cemetery.

Once the man was out of sight and mind, there was nothing else that the skeletons could do besides fall back into formation. Of course, the undead no longer seemed worried about the out layers so much anymore. Most of the masses would now be surrounding the building in large built, the middle layers of enemies now larger than they had been before. But that wasn't all. The leftover remains that had been made by Jay would take form of new fighters, with bones having been made of pieces of the dead as well. Ten new fighters stood within the crowds, standing at six feet tall each, and looming over the others.

The man looked towards the new developments, stopping his progress for a moment. He narrowed his eyes and contemplated the source of the energy that controlled the skeletons. This was unlike his previous mission where he was dealing with the living. 'Aren't I?' He thought as he recalled that energy only resided amongst the living. This living being's energy was controlling the skeletons, obviously.

Knowing that the mausoleum housed that strange light, the skeletons were guarding it fiercely with a hive-like mindset and only the most precise attacks were capable of killing them... again... he knew what he'd have to do. He looked up towards the moon above and calculated the amount of light it was casting down into the graveyard. It was a decent amount, the small amount of clouds, around 3, were not around the moon, which wasn't in it's fullest capacity. To deal with the hive, he couldn't attack them individually, he had to attack at once, without harming the landscape, anymore than he already had.

He sent a rippling pulse throughout his frame and went through a series of hand seals, not wanting the chance of things going wrong. As he ended on the Rat seal, his shadow below began to wiggle around before circling around the Nara(1). He took a deep breath before beginning another series of hand seals, again ending on the Rat seal.

Again, his chakra pulsed throughout his body, except once it reached his shadow below it began to stretch out to connect with the nearest shadow, being the gate of the graveyard. Once it connected with the gate's shadow it pressed forward, using the entirety of the gate's shadow to connect with the nearest skeleton. Once it reached the first skeleton, it was all he needed before his shadow exploded with a large amount of his chakra, causing it to burst forward. It connected with the shadows of each of the skeletons, using their shadows to stop them from moving completely(2) before he managed to cover the entirety of the graveyard.

By this point in time, sweat had begun to bead on his brow, feeling a tad exhausted from the chakra it took to connect with the amount of skeletons, not to mention the amount it took to connect with the bigger enemies and the biggest new contender. He knew this next technique would handle his problems and thus, he begun the series of seals, yet again ending on the Rat seal. His breath had begun to quicken, from the amount of chakra being used but he pressed on. His shadow, given the command, began to rise up the legs of the skeletons, turning them pitch black. Because of his imitation technique, they were unable to move an inch, thus couldn't help but to take the punishment that was unfolding among their ranks. As the shadows covered each of the skeletons, it began to shrink down into the ground(3), the sounds of crunching bones being muffled from the thick layer of shadow around them.

As soon as they all disappeared into the ground, his stretched shadow vanished along with them, no longer connected with anything. As the connection vanished, the Nara was forced to his knees from the exertion, breathing heavily.

As the enemies found themselves ground into dust, it would be the great show of power from the Nara that was the most impressive. The once filled battlefield was now empty, and there was a seemingly straight path straight to the mausoleum that was in the distance. But then that purple energy flashed once again but unlike the other times, there was no scream of the undead that responded to the energy that flooded the area...

For now, it seemed that the Nara could approach the building that had been surrounded. But before he would get the chance, there would be another flash of energy... And nothing again. This time the  blast was out of rhythm... And no screams of the undead again. What was going to happen?

Despite the freedom that now presented itself ahead, the Nara had used a great deal of chakra and could barely keep himself from passing out. Fortunately, he had a plan for his previous action... he just had to make sure he could follow through with it.

With a staggering motion, slowed by his exhaustion, he reached behind him and grabbed at his ninja pouch. It fumbled from his grasp and fell to the floor. A bit discouraged, but determined not to be at the complete mercy of whatever lurked inside the mausoleum he again reached for the pouch. Instead of grabbing it, he swept it closer to him, directly below his line of sight. He opened it with shaky hands and searched for the pair of soldier pills inside. They would serve to reinvigorate the young man, if he managed to consume one of them.

It would seem that all things would be going truly in favor of the young Nara... Until a loud creak would echo across the graveyard, the giant doors of the mausoleum slowly coming open. Coming from within the doors was currently a black silhouette, purple light pouring out from the inside of the building and stopping the youth from seeing anything inside. But the power would course across the ground with enough force to not only threaten to knock the young Nara to the ground even further but to send the pouch of his a bit further away.

The doors closed behind the figure and revealed was the cloaked form of a man, though he gave off no chakra and seemingly produced no shadows.

As the figured walked down the stairs of the large building and onto the ground, it was obvious that his head turned from side to side, as though he was taking in the sight of there being no more undead. But just as quickly as that was done, his hooded face turned towards the direction that the Nara was currently at. The man's pace never changed from a casual walk, but even as he drew closer it would be almost impossible to see anything but his face. He didn't speak as he got closer but he was emitting a similar power to that inside, though it would be hard to tell anything else without any magical knowledge.

In the amount of time it took for the man's power to flood the area and push his pouch, it'd only serve to push it under his butt. His eyes blurred as the mysterious hooded man began his casual walk in his direction. He would be unbeknownst to this, because of the fact the man bore no chakra signature, nor sensible shadows.

Continuing with the shaky fashion, feeling as if his muscles had aged and simultaneously grew heavier, he reached for his pouch for the third time. He forgo'd his sense of sight and simply felt around for the pills. Lodged underneath a scroll which contained his bow and arrows, he pulled one of the pills from the pouch and brought it to his lips. By this time, the mysterious man would undoubtedly have covered the distance at the same moment he went and dry swallowed the pill.

The hooded man did have more than enough time to make it to the Nara, when having reached the gates he would have seemingly faded through, before standing at his side. But, he made no sound as he moved, so when he stood by Jay's side, the man had started to removed his hand from his pouch. With the same casual grace, the man strolled around the man in those moments, until he was facing the gates once more...

And right when Jay would think all was safe and he was fine, unless he found a way to see the man and save himself, he would feel a powerful blow to the side of his ribs. So strong that it would threaten to tear the man from the ground with ease and send him hurling against the iron gates, where the chains keeping them shut would groan with protest for but a moment before ultimately giving out and letting the Nara fly inside. Had this happened, it was then the man would speak.

"Fool, you dare try to stop the work of my Master? You are ignorant, using your strength on the horde." The man started his walk towards Jay once more, just as he had before.

Involuntary clenching of his hand around the pill would keep it from flying, despite the Nara's body being forced to do so. The light in the Nara's eyes dimmed considerably from the physical damage to his ribs and his back as it intimately befriended the gate.

Only then would the up and coming Hero be aware of the mysterious man's presence, though only for an instant as his frame rolled in the dirt of the graveyard. Thoughts of his impending demise grew in his mind, and a promise to a certain secretary forced the man to move, despite his body's protest. Moans and groans echoed from his core as he again brought his fist to his face and sending the pill down his throat for another attempt to consume it, while a voice echoed in his mind. Who's was it? It wasn't one he was aware of? Was it his assailant's? Or perhaps, his consciousness, berating him for his apparent ignorance? Whatever it was, it had a degree of truth to it, but the Nara knew it was necessary and wouldn't have posed much of a problem if someone hadn't come to check!

"Ironic that of all place, it is here you are going to die." The man was far from ignorant about the pill in his hand, having watched the Nara try to eat it when he had thought himself alone. As it went into his mouth, the hooded man had made his way to the Nara and went to preform the same action as before. A powerful kick threatened to slam into Jay's side once more and send him crashing into a large tombstone and tumbled to a stop against another, the goal of this to goal him to spit the pill out from the force of the blow and the crashing through cement.

"It is here you be buried, Adventurer." But then the man would follow again, though as his hands rested at his sides this time, an odd blue started to glow around them as he muttered something beneath his breath. It was something similar to the purple glow inside but not exactly the same, meaning that this person wasn't the source of the glowing purple light inside the mausoleum.

A mistake on the man's part, allowing the initial consumption of the soldier pill. As soon as it took root in the man's stomach, his core would vibrate with the power the pill bestowed. Even as he was kicked away into the tombstone, his chakra would be rushing back through his coils, once again empowering his body. Any fatigue he might have been feeling from the chakra used moments ago and during his previous mission was wiped clean from his previously pressured slate.

Even his physical wounds felt numb to the power of the soldier pill, hypothetically feeling like a million bucks. But mentally, he was beyond irritated, the atmosphere around him responded to this by the temperature lowering dozens of degrees. So much so, that the water in the air grew visible as if it was falling snow. He staggered to his feet, appearing dejected, even as he hocked a loogie at the ground, the resulting ice would sink a bit into the ground. "A mistake has been made tonight." Jay's piercing crimson hues darkened considerably as he glared at the magic user in front of him. "You made me angry."

"Arrogant..."

The man had only uttered that word before his hands raised toward his and then the man would get his first experience with powerful magic. The air around the man began to vibrate, the vibrations becoming so strong that it begun to shake the ground that the two of them had been standing upon. The blue glow around his hands starting to emit a brighter light than it had moments before he clapped his hands together....

And then, similar to a Bansho Tenin, Jay would suddenly feel the overwhelming pull of some force, though Jay would probably assume it was gravity. Had Jay found himself ripped off his feet, he'd be sent flinging towards the hooded man, whose hands still had that glow about them. Throwing his hands towards the Nara, the aura around his hands flew outwards and grew into two large hands. These hands aimed to wrap themselves around Jay and seemingly crush him between their hands... But had he been caught by those hands, when they would try and squeeze him, instead the magic would enter his body... And shut down his chakra usage again..

Barely, would the whisper of the word be uttered from the man's mouth before the Nara burst into action, using the speed of the Shunshin to appear directly in front of the man, his hand already reaching for the man's face. He would attempt to engulf the man's face with his freezing cold hand. His motion would seamlessly work in conjunction with his chakra output.

As his hand grasped the man's face, his ice chakra would invade the man's skull, attacking the brain directly as he squeezed and lifted the man, whilst simultaneously motioning for a powerful slam, head first. The attack on the man's brain would slow any magical response, if not freeze the liquid in the man's brain entirely. This was Death's Embrace in it's full ferocity and the Nara took no prisoners when he was mad, a trait he shared with his ferocious mother.

If allowed, the impact would no doubt explode the man's head, leaving his body lonely without the dominant organ to keep it company.

Surely the young adventurer had not expected the mage to fall so easily, despite his given speed the man before him seem unperturbed. As Jay's hand would come to grasp his head, it was an easy thing for this man to spin his body so that the blow would come to miss his head by a few inches. Seeing as his magic attack was stopped from before, he would try something else now... His right hand would have aimed to grab the extended arm of the Nara and had connection been made, the magic man would summon forth the power of lightning and surge the element suddenly through Jay's body. It wouldn't be enough to kill the man had it worked, but more than enough to render him unable to fight anything for a few moments.

At the same time, the left hand of the man would have thrown itself towards Jay's stomach, where the magic would come out in a raw force like before. The force aimed to strike him like a fastball at 80mph from close range, hoping to break several ribs and stagger the male before he could retreat from his attack, in case the hooded man didn't get a chance to shock Jay with his powers.

The Nara had to have expected an evasion on a subconscious level, but it wouldn't stop his near blind ferocity. As the man moved out of the way, he'd do the same, only with different intentions. Unbeknownst of the magic being gathered, he'd substitute with fragments of the broken tombstone not far from the man. Because, with the amount of skeletons from before, and the size of the graveyard as a whole, the spacing of the tombstones couldn't possibly be all that big.

As he reappeared, he threw himself at the man with a speed hack. Using a mixture of his normal speed and Genjutsu, he'd effect the man's mind. But after his first two steps, he'd show himself appearing behind the man again, while he actually jumped high into the air. He didn't have his ninja pouch, so he couldn't throw anything explosive down at the man, but he did suppress his chakra, his Genjutsu fading from the man's mind as well. It would seem as if he had completely disappeared, but he had a simple plan, even as he dropped towards the man. Even with his chakra suppressed, he prepared himself for the next part of his plan.

In theory, it had been a truly wonderful plan. But Jay had underestimated the apprenticeship at which the Mage before him had truly reached. The cloaked figure before him was not afflicted by the Genjutsu as it was cast, though he would slowly begin to turn his head over his shoulder as though it had been as effective as Jay had wanted. The man could not fully stop the chakra that tried to trick him but he could see through it just as clearly in the same moment, more than aware of how Jay launched himself into the air. With the casual glance over his shoulder, he played the youth's game and would allow it to seem as though he fell for the simple trick, though the blue magic that seemed to be around his had didn't fade for a moment.

As Jay would reach the Apex of his jump, the Mage locked onto his changed of gravity, the moment in which the forces of this Earth would start to pull on his form once more. It was in that moment he willed his magic together with the forces of nature and threw his hand upwards, as though preparing to throw a strike backwards where the Fake Jay had been... But when he brought his hand down, not only would he return to his neutral stance to face Jay but the Adventurer would find himself torn out of the air by the forces of gravity itself,"Not only are you sloppy, but you think and act almost like a wild animal."

Time was very important in a fight. It was something that could tear someone apart, given how fast paced things can get when your fighting for your life. The amount of time it took the Nara to realize what had happened, he was already crashing down towards the ground. Fortunately, for him, he had jumped rather high, so he wouldn't meet the ground too quickly.

He couldn't think about how obvious it was that his little hack hadn't worked. Just how strong was this person? He couldn't even think about that, just that he did need to calm himself down and fight smarter. Thus, thanks to the moonlight above, he dropped directly into his shadow. Right at the point of the intended impact, his chakra shot into the shadow. He wouldn't sink too much into it, it was only a way for him lessen the damage of the crash. It still hurt, however, and he let out a soft groan. "Bastard."

He didn't know the full extent of the man's magic, but he had to think of something to do. Dying here was not on his to-do list.

"Adventurer, what right do you have to be here? You are throwing your life away." It was in that moment that the man's right hand would come upwards, fingers coming to make a fist in a similar way that sand users had when commanding the grains to converge and crush an enemy. From beneath Jay the ground that had saved him, though it was more directly his shadow obviously, would be his for. They would twist and turn suddenly, shooting upwards in a total of from spiked pieces of earth that would extend upwards for nearly twenty feet in an attempt to catch Jay between them and crush him to death.

But the Mage had to plan ahead, waving his left hand through the air in a swiping motion, which would cause a hand like before to form. But it not only formed, it would come across the opening in the earth pieces and the air above it. The goal was either to crush Jay or smack him to the side with this oversized hand, which was at least seven feet in side all around. It aimed to try and slam into his side and like a flat with a swatter, send him into the ground and tumbling through more than just one gravestone this time.

Frustration. That's what the Nara was feeling when he realized the mage wasn't closing the distance, his groaning stopping as well. It was just enough time for him to sense his chakra being forced out of the shadows below him. He didn't try to fight for control and instead aimed to substitute with another tombstone, about a dozen meters behind the unnamed mage.

Instead of going in for another direct assault, he flew through a series of hand seals. Once it was complete, an explosion of ice erupted from him(1). The range was vast, covering the entire cemetery, the lower temperature stretching out twice as far.

His goal was to not only aim to catch the mage off guard with the wide technique, but to also provide "suppression fire" to allow him time to escape, which he did with a body flicker towards his discarded, and now frozen, ninja pouch. If all went according to plan, the mage would end up frozen, brittle enough that a simple rock could shatter his frame, and he would be making a brief retreat to regain his senses and strength.

When Jay had disappeared, immediately the Mage's gaze would fall to around the cemetery again... Where they would find Jay launching a jutsu.

The potentials of magic was truly something, well, magically. As the ice began to fly across the whole graveyard and aimed to claim the life of the mage, he actually let out a soft 'tch' beneath his hood. For this, he would have to use both of his hand. Both of his hands flew upwards in the same way that someone using Shinra Tensei may have done, causing his magical energy to fly out a total of ten feet around him completely before he could get frozen or stabbed to death. The harder spells would take concentration and he had to throw it up in such a quick notice...

But his eyes had never stopped watching Jay, even as he tried to run away. He would throw both hands towards him like he had before, his force coming out in the shape of hands that were no larger than his normal ones. It was a quick thrown spell that tried to get the hands onto the back of Jay's shirt and rip him off his feet backwards, hopefully sending him into an awkward tumble.

It was more than obvious that this quest was no longer about undead skeletons, the ulterior intentions were unknown, but it was becoming frustrating that he couldn't seem to catch the man off guard. He wasn't even the real person behind this entire fiasco and this put the pressure on him even more so. All of this ran through his mind as he was making his escape, but being around this mage was warping his senses. With the more magic he was using, the more paranoid he was getting. So when he sensed his chakra spacing out, he knew that it was because of magic and went through a flip once he reached his pouch. As he scooped it up, he felt the magical presence on his back and rolled on the floor, left shoulder first.

Because of the ice, the fall was dangerously digging into his skin through his shirt. A curse erupted from his throat from the thud, but he had to stay active. With pure muscle memory, during the tumble, he managed open the pouch and flip over onto his feet... foot, his left knee on the ice. In the same motion, the scroll unfurled itself with a quick yank and with a fluid motion he unsealed his bow along with his quiver.

This was when things slowed down just a bit. Because his arrows were in the quiver, he would have to pull one from it. By this time, he was sure the mage would continue with his offensive assault and thus, slung the quiver around his shoulder. Thankfully, he was still under the effects of the soldier pill, so he would be able to fight as well as ignore the pain in his left shoulder.

The mage would let out a grunt as the man drew forth his weapon, extending his arms outwards as the color of the magic around his hands changed to a deep shade of purple,"Suffer for your ignorance," Energy began to spin around him swiftly in the same color of the magic on his hands, beginning to disrupt the air around him. The ground faintly began to shake as this power was called upon, his eyes beginning to glow the same deep purple as the energy grew, seen even beneath the darkness of his hood. The energy around him would come to a crescendo as he brought his hands together in a clap,"Devour my enemies, Thanatos!"

Behind the mage tore open a line of deep purple before it opened up to a full rift, a large leg coming forth. From the portal stepped a towering dark knight that wore armor that was seemingly battered and beaten, in his right hand a chipped longsword and his left glowing an ominous shade of black. Red eyes glowed from beneath his helmet at Jay once he was fully out of the portal, showing that he stood at a towering ten feet tall... And within an instant was the dark knight standing in front of Jay, aiming to swing his weapon effortlessly through the air in an attempt to cleave the adventurer directly at the hipbone.
