Title: After trying 10 or so times, (spoilers?)
Post by: Blah on June 02, 2008, 06:55:22 PM
Dying the first nine times, wandering, lost and hopeless through a hideout that you had to have quite a few DKs to even enter, successfully defeating an angry spirit that attacked me with 400 hp to my 70 at level 1, I wandered, got bit, stepped on sharp objects, and was haunted by screams, rats, and spirits...

And what did I get?
I won't say, since anyone who's completed it will probably know what I got, but what I got was totally not worth the effort I put in it.  There is absolutely no reason that something like that should require that much effort.  Why bother entering there at all, if that's all it does?

It's silly!

Sorry, just needed to angrily rant.

Get it done fast enough, and you get stuff.

Mihamaru, he indicated that he got something, just that it was not worth his effort.

I tend to agree.  I have made it through in as few as 14 steps, I have also made it out in as many as 140.

14 steps, for having to face no "monsters", the reward was easily worth it.

140 steps, fighting all of the "big 3" that you can only find in the hideout, I got nothing.

Nothing at all.

I have been trying to figure out a FAIR way to implement a similar reward system to the Vampire Bride Baluski event, but have it scaled.  Without it being OVERLY complicated, I would like the reward system to be based upon 3 things:

1) Did you exit?  You earn something (even if small).

2) How many steps did it take you to exit?  (Fewer steps gets a better prize, as it currently works).

3) Did you fight & defeat any of the Big 3 monsters?  (some 'level' of reward for each).

Just some ideas.

yeah, the risk for that place doesn't seem worth it

I walked in a straight line and got out in like...I think..10 steps and managed to only get like 6 gems. :/ That's got to be the most you can get from it. I think you should get some experience, instead of almost nothing.

I like your system a lot.^^

Well, we have to develop something FAIR to have a better chance of it being accepted.   :P

ONLY IF they could be temporary, I had proposed a random chance of gaining DEX if making it out quickly, or another stat depending on the circumstances.

Again, that cannot currently even be considered, because such stats cannot be handed out on a temporary basis currently.

Also, I do not think Neji was high on that idea - but hey, surely it doesn't hurt to ask?

It's just deadly hard right now. Myself, I just ignore the place and hate when I accidently go in. What's the point of it if everyone does that?

I got a total of nothing for surviving that hellhole for 220 turns.  Really slow, sure, but I had to actually touch every single square, which was really annoying.

The thing I hate most about it: once you're in it, you're stuck in it till you die or get out. Even on the new day, you're still stuck. I think there should be a "commit suicide" option in that place.>>

Or at least get the new day back.

I hate getting stuck in there o.O

and what do you mean get the new day back?

If you go in 10 minutes before the new day, and stay in there for 20 minutes, I think when you die in there, you don't get the turns from the new day, but I may be wrong.

Miha's right. It's a huge waste...

 nope, it costs you tons of turns and time and you are happy when you get out   :D

Yes, we are happy when we get out -

However, I think the consensus of the previous posters is that the payoff you get is not worth it, which means fewer and fewer people will engage the event, which diminishes its purpose.

It has a high risk of death - I think it should have a payoff for just getting out, even if small (and no, not just being happy :D).

Did you make it out?
Small reward (random item similar to the function used it Bride of VLB?)

Did you fight one of the Big 3 (these are among the strongest in the game) monsters?
Above reward + an additional random item within the same guidelines

Did you make it out in 'X' number of turns?
Above reward(s) (if applicable) + current reward system (gems / gold, etc).

I thought about 25 DP for beating any of the Big 3, but thought that might be too much since that is the same as beating Orochimaru.

I also think the random item list should be a bit better than Bride of VLB.  I am not saying it should be all HIGH END items, but it should not have Kunai, Shuriken, etc.

Just a thought.

The goal is to increase the odds that people enter the event, since it does have a high chance of instant death.  Great Risks are usually only undertaken when there are Great Rewards waiting at the end.

*Definitely wasn't happy* My mind was more like 'thank goodness I'm out of that stupid place....oh wait, 0 reward!' :P
