Do you have to be a shark man to fully fuse with Samehada?

Don't think so. Just be a cool owner to it and it should come naturally. Kisame didn't really seem to be a shark man. He just seemed to stylize himself to look like a shark. Though he probably gained some minor appearance alterations here and there from fusing before the reveal. That's probably why he can passively absorb chakra without Samehada too, but to a lesser extent in comparison to the Preta Path.

I would suggest you be somewhat a shark so you can use it effectively. You need gills to breath water after all.
