Title: Double the Character Limit?
Post by: Keito Uzumaki on December 08, 2015, 05:38:43 AM
Probably mentioned before, not too sure really but I was wondering if we could maybe expand the character limit when posting on the boards? Now I already know how this could be abused, so instead of suggesting 1000, in which I would also be in favor for! I would just propose we double it to 600 characters. No worries if this doesn't seem like a big issue, but I figured I might as well suggest it and save some people the extra (c) which also takes away from the character count each time. Besides, in the RP aspect, 600 words can give a nice range for a single post without the need to use a continuation and In more extreme cases, there are those who can dish out text blocks with ease. Unless the regular standards are fine, I don't mind it either way. Would be a nice addition though. Could keep the OOC section to 300 while switching it up for RP? That could work too.

I agree.

This has been talked about already and was expanded by....like 30 characters or so? Not sure. If someone else doesn't link it by the time I'm home I will.

There you go. Was increased by 50. Do we all want even more? Of course, but unless you rally for it you won't get anywhere.

About the PM limit. I disagree. 4096 characters is more than enough.

It's enough room for an 800 word essay consisting of nothing but 5 character words. So if you are doing an in-depth rp I can see where an issue would arise.

We need to buy Neji bigger tubes for his server so he can fit more text in our pm's and such. You can only fit so much internet in certain size tubes.

Anyone got $12,000?
I'll take $3,00 as a finders fee. ;)

It's not a lack of 'tube size'

Neji upped the deletion cap of things (Mails, comments, etc) from 90 days to half a year. For what reason I've forgotten. My point is that if he can do that then I don't see why more characters cannot be added. It'd probably take up less usage than doubling the archive deletion time did/does.

More like you need a (c) at the end of your PM's so that the receiver knows that it' a continuation lol.

I could see this being useful, would make real time editing much easier. I am one of those RPers that drafts my entire RP response on a word document first before copy/pasting it into the reply field on the board so my chain of responses comes quickly all at once and does not lock the board out for others due to my activity. Otherwise it takes me a few minutes for each reply in order to collect and plan my thoughts out ahead in 300 character blocks so everything flows how I want it too.

To have a 600 character limit would give me more leeway and play in drafting and submitting my responses in real time, so I can more quickly and naturally throw out a narrative without as much foreshadowing of my own actions being necessary. Basically, it just would make things easier for me in writing given the way I plan things out and write.

In the mean time though, I will just continue to draft most everything unless I'm posting during periods of low user activity on the site which is common for me where I work night shift and thus am up late in the middle of the night when most users are offline asleep or at work in their respective time zones.
