I've had this ony my desk for some time, but never came around to make the final tweaks.
Now that I've got more experience with image handling via PHP, the final map now works.
The countries are now not always "1 travel", but more "x Travel Points away", to make it more realistic.
However, the fields will stay until there are other locations that might be solely for the purpose of sleeping on the map.
Note that what is ON the map might not actually be reachable. The navigations still decide what is.
Also I left the not-ready "click on target region" for now out of the picture, maybe I'll do something later on.
-
Now that I've gotten used to it, I like the realism it brings. ^^; Nice job. Though, springing it on us all of a sudden like that was rather evil. >>
-
Question.
Are all the villages there planned?
-
All the points who have red names are there.
that's it.
-
I got few questions...
and the number of free travels is now based on what, Rank? level? companion? or is the same as before?
I liked it a lot, it is more cool. :D
-
Am i supposed to be able to see the hidden ******************** village or the hidden ************* village on the map?
-
I would just like to say how much i like this :D
-
I love it and I grown quite fond of it. >>
Just every now and then I think (c) is the key for Konoha. :|
-
I hate how you can only go to one place form Water Country -_- But oh well, I'll live.
-
This new feature is not bad, I need to get used to it.
The point system is nice as well =).
-
points are based on ... nothing =) base points.
but I'll put a "buy travels for oro kills" in it soon.
-
I think I understood the point system wrong.
1 turn= 1 travel
X turns= points
Grr...my precious turns.
-
 exactly.
travel point = forest fight.
-
Is access to Hoshi going to be the same (only from certain countries)?
We seem to be basing the amount of travels on where it is on the Naruto map
One of the countries that used to have access to it isn't near it.
-
Pretty cool, but it sucks for those who have village hidden in the mist as their home, and for people who have dwellings at the water country.
I guess I won't travel to other places very often anymore.
-
It always wanted something like this to be in SL =D
But my "nest" is in Water Country, isolated & far away from others XD
So maybe horses or giant birds can be added as companions (like the mercenaries) that you can hire. While you have them, you will get more free travel points as you dont need to walk on your own 2 feet XD
Or a donation item like, Yondaime's Kunai, which allows the player to teleport to any location without using up their travel points. 100 dp for 10 kunais XD
-
1) Not enough birds in Naruto. Aside from that filler one, there aren't ANY birds.
2) Shouldn't it take chakra though?
-
1) mounts give now from double to three times the travels, nobody mentiones that, so I can just remove it I guess? =)
2) Water Country, hm, maybe it is now safer if you don't like to get PvP'd ... hmmm...nah, only me that thinks going to hide where fewer will get. Silly me.
3) Hoshi has been adapted to the geography, but I have found NO clue of where Hoshi ACTUALLY is... -_- no map, nothing. Correct location appreciated...
4) The system is not 100% balanced, can't be, because not enough have tested it... you all do that now, and we'll see how it works out.
5) Sooner or later more locations will be added to the map. There might also be special locations on it....
6) a home town and the location is now far more important than before. formerly with 1 travel you could venture the entire landscape in one game day. So Wind Country -> Water Country -> Wind Country .... all that in 1 game day. In the series they needed 3 days for Wind -> Konoha ...
-
yeah, theres a lot more strategy in what country you pick after an oro kill....
-
hoshi gakure is in the land of bears
its the village hidden under the stars (hoshigakure no sato)

btw its sad that academy students cant really travel around the world with this few travelpoints =/
-
This is like major awesome for low ranks>> I was able to travel 5 or 6 times with Butterscotch(a genin with no mount)
-
you can now travel 10 times.
konoha -> fire country and back =)
wow
without mount as acad.
@hoshi gakure
ok, and where *is* the land of the bears? =)
-
Does the size of the mount influenciate the number of travels they give? for instance do the bigger ones give more travels than the small ones? since in proportion they d have to walk less to get from one village to the other
-
You make an interesting point.
But say something that naturally moves slowly, aka a sloth, slug, turtle etc. would its "bigness" not matter one bit?
-
=)
say they give travel when it is apt... and they vitalize you i.e.
-
i like it!!Ive always wanted that!!But it would be cooler if we click on the country(on the picture) to go there. But its fine the way it is
-
One step at a time.
-
I'd post this extra little comment on the feature request section, but it isn't very developed.
Perhaps, eventually have it where things happened on the way to countries. Nothing that would severely alter the balance of the game (such as tons of enemies) but random little things. Such as... [insert good idea here]
It may make very long travels worth it.

Such as tons of enemies...? How often do you travel?
-
How about dividing the map into grids? Like Oro's hideout.
And instead of a list of countries on you traveling Navigation Menu, you have directions (North, South, East, West). Each move you make will cost 1 travel point with a chance of encountering enemies, pick up something from the ground, or an event.
When your icon moves above a location, you will be asked if you want to enter.
*As for traveling from water country, when your icon move across water surface, just think of it as getting on a boat or something.
It makes traveling more realistic & more like a RPG. Fun but it will be more time consuming.
For those who are in a rush, maybe there can be a ride (horse or boat) that would take them there in an instant, but for a cost of course. A limit on how many rides are avaliable might be good too, to prevent players from not using the map travel at all. The penalty for using this lazy travel method will be no chance of finding items or getting an event.
I thought of it while playing on our little friend's server. This is not only better than theirs, but it also improve the gameplay in SL. >3
-
I thought about a grid-like map.
And discarded it for now.
Reason:
time out -> location = where?
fields in EVERY square?
no, not that good, at least not now.
I am also aware of loopholes using that system.
@new locations.
great, what is there.
can somebody provide written code? Oo that's the issue.
Oro's hideout be a location -> well, I don't like to make it that non-random.
Later on maybe, if it is more than "just a maze"
People now complain "I have to go to X first, if I want to go to Y!!!!" and even that one click more is too much.
Now a grid-map, and ... well.
A ride that costs money?
=) I know! And you can ride through the countries to reach any destination?
Yeah, would be great. Like in old times.
No events? great, no fights either.
Sounds like a few really want the old system back.
No big deal, I'll start a poll, the winner gets what he wants, and that's it.
I am not biased in that matter, I can live with both.
-
I really like the world map.
I think some things could be fine tuned (the number of 'travel points' each thing costs & the number of 'travel points' with which you start, for example).
I also wish there were a way to keep the labels on the map from showing if they do not show in the navigation. For instance, Hoshi & Stone showing for everyone.
Anyway, I like the new travel system and hope it stays.
+1
-

Now a grid-map, and ... well.
Even though I don't like that because it makes things tougher for me, I don't think it's that hard to fix the problem.
Just choose a different home country.
That would mean though that members would have to give up some benefits from time to time.
The new travel system is not bad, but it kind of gives me a hassle at times.
-
Besides Gyu, the lack of time consumption is the reason I LIKE this travel system!
-
it doesnt matter to me much.I only use travels to go around and to go to hoshi to withdraw gold at lvl 1
-
The new travel system is o.k.
The realistic part is o.k.
I don't think it is a BIG realistic difference because you just see a map, and you click away to your destination.
I don't mind if we would go back to the original way.
-

Quite often...
I'm saying don't make the travel an easy way to get experience when forest fights are used up.
Now that there is a new system, I don't know if I'd want to go back.
I like the old one better, but that is just because it is familiar.
I'm sure given time, I would learn to like this one too.
Wait a little while before issuing a poll.
I'm sure at this point, most would vote for the old one.
Thing is though, given time I sincerely believe that the new one would win.
A lot of people probably aren't willing to give this one a chance is the reason why.
-
Just great...another "limitation" on how long you can play the game...
-
do you mean because you partly could travel endlessly, regardless of the travels?
else, 3 travels is 3 travels... that's a limitation too.
If you seek power beyond measure, you should go elsewhere.
-
I think that you should be able to travel to another village from any village. It should just cost more travel points..
I mean, you COULD travel from konoah to water country, it just needs more time (so travel points)
-
I think that's not the idea of the map...
-
but konoha can go directly to water yet water can only go to fire o.O
-
but konoha can go directly to water yet water can only go to fire o.O
I hate to agree with doom, but he's right there. That doesn't make much sense.
-
I think every Village should be able to go to Konoha, except for maybe Rice Field because of their relations.
-
I'm fairly certain Rice is against everyone.
-
some ways might be off, I'll check.

I may have misread, but I thought people were stating that their were no "points" system...that you must use turns to travel.
Now, now...there is no need to get your undies in a bunch - this is my home, I shall never leave...even if it kills YOU...
*coughs*
now I'm sure when you have time, you will be implicating special "events" to interfere with traveling to & fro that you have already conjured up in your noggin already, no?
-
you have 20 travel points.
these are FIRST used when you travel.
if you have NO points left, it uses 1:1 turns.
-
wait, so it uses like 8 turns to get to water from fire?
-
if you have NO points left, it uses 1:1 turns.
Can you see it now? =)
-
I'm not good at ratios baluski, don' have to rub it in my face
-
There's not much to think about, it's 1 to 1. -_-
-
well I'm not smart baluski, stop rubbing it in!
-
Maybe Neji should put in lines from city to city on the map so you know how to get where.
It would be better than running around aimlessly from village to village trying to get to water country for someone who doesn't know how to get there.
-
Feature requests?
-
Can i just say Kirasu, i think that how it should be, make it harder!
-
I thought about it, though it would make the map less readable.
because you surely don't like to see *the current paths going away from that town* but how to reach your destination, or? :)
-
Neji, what about added something in the Inn like About World Map or something like that?
-
you mean like I added
http://wiki.shinobi-beta.com/index.php/Travel_System
and if I put routes in... ;) you know that most people would not get the "from->to" lines if ALL routes are displayed.
Remember: Routes from-to might differ.
-
Oh, ok i never realised it changed ^^
-
... couldn't you kinda make it like this?
xxx -> -> -> -> -> xxx
for villages where it's only one way, and
xxx <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> xxx
for villages that go both ways?
-
Wouldn't that make it very complex?
-
i dont understand doomstar xDD
but why cant you just travel to everyone place from everywhere with just more travel costs?
-
That defeats the purpose!
-

xxx -> -> -> -> -> xxx

xxx <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> xxx
for villages that go both ways?
I don't think it makes much sense that you go from X to Y, but not from Y to X, Why is that?

hey, I'm only going by what neji said

What you say is true though when you are traveling from X to Y it might be a clear sunny day, on the way from Y to X it could be a storm and tree may have blocked the path.

that wouldn't work like that.
that would be an event
-
weather stuff COULD come...so...
-
I was right :D
-
weather stuff COULD come...so...
But it isn't in now.
Not only that, but there is one route I know that only goes one way, which I find odd.
-
Never had a pass through mountains that is too dangerous the other way around?
Like climbing a mountain that is easy, but on the same side you cannot go down?
-
weather stuff COULD come...so...
but wouldn' that be more event related?
-
Maybe if while traveling you could chose 1 of 3 routes and by Random Chance you either set of some event or merely continue to the Village
WOuld that work?
