You show great alternatives ^^

Just to make one point clear, I won't remove it, because there is not alternate way.

IP addresses are the ONLY thing a brute force hacker has to use, else he just hops through.
Even this is not really secure, but we cannot do anything else than ban the IP.

mac adresses are useless, cannot be read out and also are not unique and can  be forged

IPs are not forgeable, but proxies and whatnot do exist.
