I like to code, but I am *lazy* with text.
So, we can talk about this a bit more in detail.
Basically: Good. Now if we can modify this a bit more, I can put it into a module pretty fast (as I said, coding no real problem).
I like the chance about permanently losing HP, which rectifies the costs sometimes, and also the prices are fair, 2 gems for 1 hp like before, more if there is also a chance to lose.
As you miss it, and I want to write a replacement, here is my deal for you:
->You are on the right way, just now use colours, make "`2As you..." (different colour if you like) and think of the colour changes. if you want to use the name of the player, his weapons, etc here, simply put in %s and think of colours ... i.e. "`2You are Mr. %s`2" to stay at the colour `2. Let me know AFTER the line in a comment what value %s should have. Can also be gems etc.
-> Do more text if you want, keep those options. Yet you might also make one with more random effects (replay value is higher) and you might give a bit more information about each potion to let players know they can lose hp here.
-> structure it like
a) start: "`2As you walk..."
--> options "blabla" -> a1, "xxx" -> a2
a1) case "blabla": "`2Oh, you want the black one..." etc
and also with effects, what happens, and what you think about the random chance.
