The scattergun is immensely superior to the other primary weapons. It has upwards of 300 DPS if you use it right. All you need is practice.

And yeah, a pyro kept killing me with a flamethrower due to lag correction. He also lit me on fire when I was fully cloaked and away from the fray.

Or you're using the Soda Popper, which is good but very situational (also a 2-shot but has crits-on-demand).

Go back to the default.

The only way to use the Soda Popper is to pull out your pistol once your crit meter hits about 99%. Then, upon entering combat, switch back to the Popper and your crits will activate, giving you a 2-hit kill on everything but an overhealed heavy.

Crit-a-Cola is one of the worst items in the game. Seriously. Winger is also bad, as the Pistol's much bigger clip gives it higher DPS and accounts for missed shots. The Winger has to hit every shot to be as good as the Pistol, which is impossible.

The Pistol is the best, and Bonk Atomic Punch is for pansy scouts or situational uses (running past sentries). Just turn those two pieces of crap into a scrap metal and trade it for some Bonk or a good weapon like the Reserve Shooter on Pyro. You airblast people into the air, quickswap to the RS and blast them for guaranteed crits (70-150 depending on how many pellets hit them).

Crit-a-Cola is basically a waste of the time spent drinking it, and the point of scout is to loop around and catch people from the back. The scattergun is strong enough to 2-3 hit everything except an overhealed soldier or heavy, and crits only lower the number to 1-2 or basically half a second. Meanwhile, it makes soldier splash damage instagib you instead of allowing you to take 40 or so damage and flee with your life. Most of the time the soldier ignores you after the first hit because you're too far away.

I chase scouts, which is probably my problem playing as one.

Anyways, like I said, I need more practice.

I still have less than an hour logged as scout.

Sniper/Pyro are still my strongest ones.

Most people start with those two. I know I did.

The more you practice with scout the more you'll get better at the game in its entirety. For now, only use the vanilla scout with the only exceptions being the Holy Mackerel (bat reskin but FISH), Atomizer (grants triple jump that costs health), or Fan O' War (hits grant crits on enemy but do pretty much no damage). Scouts should almost never be meleeing anyways.

As for options, I use auto reload, a customized aim target (I use the dot) and other things. Look through and check the ones you like.
