  Ok, I know I have had some really bad ideas in the past, but I think this one will be good.

If you watch the news or read in the world news papers, you always here about how in Africa, people are suffering and dying every day. I think it would be cool if we could take a month out of this year and donate all the money we make and give it to a missions trip to Africa to help the people out.

I don't want to be mean to anyone and it is not my intension to...but you have to understand I don't think SL makes that much money (Please correct me if I am wrong Neji). Plus there are probably many support organizations out there to donate to...I think you should donate their, sorry. Truly though it is a nice idea, but there are probably lots of support groups out there like I said, just search on the internet and you will probably find some support groups.

that's a nice idea, but did u check the bottom right part of the screen, where the info about donations is?

1) there's not that much money

2) as i said, the idea is very nice, but maybe is should have come from the owner of the money

I thought about that too.

But... if people pay to keep the server up, and I donate it myself to some third party, maybe they would not like that very much.

It is "their money" basically.

The last month did pretty much cover the cost + get a bit over it (there are more costs for testservers etc than displayed).
And I have a decent amount as "warchest" up my sleeve from the previous months that were quite over the goal.

I am willing to think about it if others agree.
Though $600 == Goal would maybe a bit too much, but $200 would not hurt the "warchest" that much.

how about once you have enough extra money you give it all in one lump sum?

It would leave me with no backup once a month has fewer income.

Then I would need to cancel one server or more... not advisable to live without backup =)

As I said, the players also need to agree.

The stored money has also a bigger goal: not a rented but a *bought* server.
Those cost $3000 about (I speak of *good* ones).

Then the monthly cost will also go down (not to $0 of course).

I agree that people suffering in Africa is a bad thing that no one wants to see, but SL is not rich enough to support that kind of thing. There are so many other promotions out there that do it... So I think SL is fine just keeping the money.

Good intentions, but bad place to ask.

yeah, i agree with everyone else, it is a good and thoughful idea, but it would be better just to either donate yourself or ask people with more money than SL to do it...

Its not a good idea accoriding to what Neji says but this should be kept in concideration when (no if) Sl Get bigger stronger and richer......*hmmm*

Especially that the dual xeon is CHEAP Oo where did they buy it from...

yet: note that you have still monthly costs. Energy is expensive, also you need to schedule maintenance.

ehem I sometimes donate money to organisations as well *yesterday for tansania*, but I think everyone should do it for himself.

But if the goal (own server) is reached we could think about this donation matter again
