The monkey thingy is pretty good, although he's completely useless at the 2nd gym (rock). If you want to get through the beginning easily, go for the water pokemon.

I have to disagree with that, fire are always cooler looking. Well, no one beats Kadabra or Alakazam (only the best pokemon in the entire game).

Oh yes, bending spoons is a devastating move, but Id rather think that the Mime thing would be better. >> It has those reflect moves.

Best Starter in Diamond/Pearl? Flaming Monkey, Grass Turtle or a Water Penguin... >> I like The Flaming Monkey once it learns the fighting moves. >> Which makes it easy against Rock types
