What do you exactly need to be explained? He used Madara b/c Itachi himself couldn't kill the entire clan. >> He also knows what Madara's intentions are so he kept Sasuke alive. Also b/c he loved his little brother. He killed for his brother inorder to keep peace within the village and the entire world as he knew it. .-.

1. itachi probably wanted sasuke to know the truth from an uchiha

2. he needed to know anyway so he wont suspect what happened to itachi and be full of hate towards him but forgiveness

Um Itachi didnt want sasuke to know any of this thats why he inplanted the black fire jutsu to active when sasuke got a look at madara, Madara even said it like afew chapters back

Um miko, I hate to say it, but Matty's right.
He showed Sasuke his sharingan to prove to him that he was an Uchiha (Madara).
Itachi knew he would do that, and made it so that Amaterasu would kill him when he tried.
