Quote
Ndirangu said that residents are superstitious and have often targeted suspected witches and wizards

I cant stop picturing the scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail where they are accusing that woman of being a witch,

"Your mom" jokes are like viruses. They die, but when they sense the right moment occurs, they come back to life and infect people.

They're not retarded. It's a cultural belief...geez your ancestors were steal doing this less than 200 years ago. Belief in witch craft and the supernatural resides in every corner of the world still. Get over it.

the people who killed the accused people were just trying to settle some type of grudge with the person by killing them.

The witch hunts and such were used as a way to kill people who others had a personal grudge against

In certain places there were no personal grudges, and it was used as a method to kill those who did not follow the beliefs of the major churches, because if you recall, pagans(sp?) retained their beliefs in polytheism after Christianity took over, and the church wanted to silence many of the people who followed that belief of the different gods for different things

People still believe in it as part of their culture and religion because of the society they live in; for example, a few hundred years ago, people believed the earth was flat and the center of the universe since that was the easiest explanation for them

It's not their fault, since they don't have all the same technology and beliefs as us .-.

Salem Witch Hunt is the best example. .__.;
Apparently, the wiccans were healing people using herbs for free, and hospitals were losing money. So they asked the wiccans to stop healing. When they refused since they found no real reason to stop, they decided to call them witches. The whole 'belief' of witches being immortal was just a ploy so they can easily kill people without questioning. That's why they claimed "If she/he survives being burned, they are a witch/warlock!"

It was actually more popular for witches to be burned then warlocks - always the goddamn females...

No. That's to popular belief.
Witches = Wiccans.

Wicca, or Paganism, is a nature based religion. In fact, it can be compared to Hinduism. But anyway, they don't just make potions. They write spells, follow moon-phases, numerology, pyrokinesis, aerokinesis, telekinesis, hydrokinesis, etcetera. They do a lot more than just potions.

A good example of witches/wiccans that is CLOSE to true is "Charmed". Up to the whole demons thing - they don't deal too much with the demons besides their own. And there aren't wars either.
