Funny thing is, Byakugan was introduced to be stronger than Sharingan if I remember correctly.

Only in terms of insight, giving them "penetrating sight and telescopic vision" (quoted from Leafninja.com).

I would assume that a Hyuuga can simply dispel a genjutsu with their Byakugan, like how the Sharingan can.  I dont think genjutsu would even work that well against the Byakugan.

I agree, the two main reasons the Sharingan can see through Genjutsu is,
-They have great knowledge of Genjutsu, and can use it well.
-They can see chakra, therefore they see what Genjutsu really is, an Illusion, just chakra
