Inbox and pm's
« on: February 15, 2010, 08:18:15 AM »

I was wondering if it would be possible to make an option where you can go 'invisible' while playing the game, as in nobody can see if you're online or not. It can be toggled on and off, and if anybody knows how facebook or AIM works, it's similar to that chat. Sometimes it'd just be nice to play the game without having to pm people or get random messages, so I was just wondering how feasible this idea is.

Personally, I'd like that option.

So I can go through my turns and not be bothered and distracted by messages.

You can even add the option where only friends can see you online or pm you.

Feasible, good word choice.
I wonder if this is feasible.

I don't like it.

because then people can scam/send inappropriate stuff and not be seen.

a basic "is online" function should be there.

Do you mean spam the village sqaure, etc. or in pms?

Is it possible that if someone did that then they would be revealed online?
Or if they are "offline" then they cannot speak?

I think this is a good idea. I don't know how programming works, nor could I ever comprehend how hard of work it is... But, you coudl have restrictions to it.

Toggle On/Off Offline capabilities. The second you post ANYWHERE, send ANY message (That includes responding) then you automatically are put as "Online"
If someone sends a message, their on/off toggle things returns to off, so they are seen as online. And they cant use it again until they log off and log back on.

Personally, I would just love to get on, do my turns, and not be bothered by anyone. Or just watch people chat discreetly.

Basically, currently it works like this:

you login --> a timestamp is generated for the last page visit
you login --> a flag "is online" is set

now, the "online" check is done in many functions and parts of the code, using those 2 options to see if the player is online.

If I wanted to make a "be invisible" option, I'd need to wrap around every part of that code a larger function to check if the player targetted has "invisible" on or off. Hence a huge amount of work for little benefit :-/
