So, what is up with them? I have a few, but they always change, and are hardly ever the same, and I can't work out any kind of pattern... are they meant to do that?

What do you mean they always change? The ingredients for the recipes always change or the actual item they create change?

I have noticed, even my lowest DK accounts randomly accumulate recipes, making the purchase of them a worthless event.

At first, I suspected a certain vampire's wife had given them to me. But 'twas not the case.

I often wondered this as well.

Oh sorry, I mean the actually Recipes in my items.
So one day I have 6, then the next day I have about 5, but half of them are different.
Then I go to make one and find I don't have it again, but this other shiny new one is there...

The script for the receipes is probably messed up. Maybe something with some of the new events and other stuff that has been added overwrote part of it causing it to bug out. Just a theory though.
