So yeah, we can most agree that it's limited to the animal path. The thing I am seeking opinions on is weather you guys think it needs to absolutely stay with the cannon dog or if it's fine if other creatures are used as a substitution for the dog. Boc for example uses a bunch of crows with the same proprieties. Of course, I'm asking in general, not Boc's thing in particular, for example, would you find it okay if someone used a multi-headed snake with identical proprieties or should this be restricted to the cerber(sp?) like creature?

Of course, the ability I am referring to is splitting and multiplying, usually when hit.

Does the dogs ability come from the rinnegan, or is it his own as a summon?
I mean, Pain's other creatures didn't do it and why is that? Maybe because it's the dogs ability in general and has nothing to do with the animal path.
So basically does the regeneration come from the rinnegan or dog? If rinnegan then go ahead and claim other animals, if the dog then no.

But like I said, I personally don't care and encourage you to go for it.

Well it would be restricted to the animal path, I was mainly just saying that let's say I just don't like the dog and want to use a multi-headed cat instead. xD

Well one of the ways to rid yourself of the thing was shown in the series, trap him in a sand coffin like jutsu in which it has no place to split or flee and it will poof away. The series example was that toad stomach crushing it(to my knowledge).

What I was asking was if it would be fine to swap the giant dog with a custom creature and have it as an animal path summon.

Edit: Nvm, just found out that it wasn't the dog's actual ability but Nagato adding that ability to the dog summon. Here is a link for the interested:

Well, it's even in the in-game abilities of the animal path so, in my view, based on that and cannon stuff, it would be a rinnegan thingy.

Yeeeeeeah, about the Seal. When its duplication power is used, does the seal use the summoners chakra to do so, or the summon itself?

According to the jutsu description you could have variant animals that do anything when something happens "This is a summoning technique that in which the summoned creature is given a special condition and when that condition is met it gains a certain ability." So you could have a crocodile that splits every Wednesday or a Hippo that turns into confetti when it sneezes.
