I'd presume no further than a 15-20ft radius from what i've examined from the series.

That sounds fair to me. I'd also like to decide WHAT you can substitute with, normally it is the log, I remember it being a rolled up carpet or something once. It seems to always be a fairly big object though. I would say it has to be otherwise what is stopping people from switching with every particle of dirt within a 20 foot radius? It should have to be an object about the size of a human torso. Was there actually any offensive substitution? Kamui's subbed with his acid and such, is there actually times when stuff like that happens? I don't remember.

Sure it's not canon, but when Sasuke got trapped inside the Ice Bomb Kunai, he substituted himself with a bomb.

It's been seen shinobi substituting themselves with their own clone, but it was made prior to the technique. As far as Kamui doing so with his own acid, it's possible since once again, this is another technique left BROKEN.

You guys see why I just think it would be better to say don't use this? It's just a cop out move because it makes no sense. Like we said it should be within 20 feet, I think switching with paper bombs in your pocket would be bs though. I don't think you should be able to switch with things like pools of acid though. Anything loose like a liquid would again allow you to say you switch with a 2x2 square of dirt next to you.

It's commonly obvious to know when someone is going to far with the technique.

The technique is taught at the academy, and is an E-Rank jutsu...even though it's really not. Logs, boulders, wooden dummy(s), and simple things in that nature is usually what's used in the anime and manga.

Wow...

I Would like a concrete definition on how and when and at what rate of speed it is possible to put a Hiraishin seal on a zombie and then reverse summons yourself out of a death situation.

how about that one?

I mean seriously?

How is that any different than a"kawarimi cop out" to escape certain death?

At least the Academy student legitimately learns this technique instead of raping the powers of an account he has bought.

Random unprovoked ranting by Kay? *yawns* Been there, done that.
