Blocking Ocular Genjutsu
« on: December 17, 2012, 05:57:11 PM »

This was something I have been wondering about. I don't think people using visors and contacts and such would help. They make it seem like a genjutsu shoots little lasers of chakra into your eyes to affect you and you can block that. I thought it works like a pendulum, if you are seeing it then it affects you. I think that honestly makes more sense then chakra blocking glasses.

That's totally different? He trained to see through genjutsu, and it still didn't work against Sasuke.

I'll give you one guess as to who in your village claims something of that ilk, and his title rhymes with Joekage.

I see. It seems to be chakra armor so in theory it would absorb chakra that was used on the person wearing it. Although, I am not sure if one can truly absorb genjutsu.... in theory I guess you could cause it is chakra but I haven't seen it done yet in the series unless I over looked it somewhere. I was under the impression someone was wearing an actual pair of like reading glasses or sun shades that allowed them to be immune to genjutsu.

Akira claimed contact lenses, Yumei has a helmet. He is saying right in the description that it blocks genjutsu. I would smack anyone claiming to be able to absorb genjutsu.

Block: Yes.
Cancel: Yes.
Absorb: Ye- No.

And again, it would depend upon what kind of genjutsu were used.

"genjutsu from being directly cast upon Yūmei" - Go figure.

It's funny how I made an argument and your's was, "Yes I'm right." I don't have to punch you in the eye with my genjutsu for it to work. I'd like to know what you think directly casting a genjutsu on someone means, and what INdirectly doing it entails. If you see the trigger your brain would perceive it and you'd be affected by it.

Direct: Tsukuyomi.
Indirect: Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique.

Note that Tsukuyomi targets a specific target via direct eye-contact, meaning that eye-contact must be made for the genjutsu to function. The target is the focus of the technique, rather than an area/environment.

Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique is designed to work on an extensive surface and fool others through their normal sense of perception when they enter the area of effect, as opposed to directly manipulating it (the senses).

I suppose, direct is manipulating somebody's senses, while indirect is exploiting those senses (while still affecting their brain in shape or form).

Note while some genjutsu have a prerequisite to be fulfilled in order to properly function (such as by first making contact (physical or visual) with the target), orders can be activated by simply forming the hand seals for them. The latter really, are what the mask renders null, while the others would still operate in the way that they do.

It's a matter of perspective.

Edit: If you were observing somebody through a camera and they tried to use Tsukuyomi on it (by looking at it), would you on the receiving end be induced by it?

Has it ever been mentioned though whether or not eye-contact with the moon itself would be necessary for the genjutsu to properly function?

Isn't that assumed? The moon is something everyone on the planet sees, Obito is gonna reflect his Sharingan off it with the power of the 10 tails, if he could just put the world under genjutsu without it he would.

Are there any existing examples of when somebody was entranced by a genjutsu such as Tsukuyomi (where eye-contact is essential) while not making direct eye-contact (so, induced somebody observing them through a medium such as a camera)?
