I'm making this topic here, because it does have to do with RP. Now, let me just start by saying this. There are problems with this game and we can all see them. I haven't been here long, but they're painfully obvious to me. The game itself, RP-wise, seems pretty good but unfortunately is pretty dead. But when you come to the forums, it's pretty active even though it's just a few people but it's a crazy mess with all the politics and issues. But how do we fix these issues?

For the forum, I'm a little unsure on how to fix it because people would just have to get along. But, why not extend an invitation out to the new players by putting reminders in the MotD? That's something that pops up universally for all players. I didn't even really know about the forums until I accidentally opened them while I was in the graveyard. It didn't really appeal to me before them so I never bothered clicking on it.

Another quick thing. The lack of MotDs. Last one was when the santa Neji event was turned off and because I don't know how to look back at the MotDs, I don't know when the one prior to the Santa Neji alert was. The lack of MotDs is a good indicator of freshness of this site. Even if the MotD is something simple like "If you want to get more familiar with the people playing, why not visit the forums?" or an inspiring quote/joke or something. Just something more often than once a month or more. Another issue is the staleness of the site, but that can only be fixed by introducing more players.

Another issue is the RP aspect of this game. I'll use an example from my actual life in this one. A while ago, I was stuck in the barracks because of crappy weather and a couple of nerdy guys in our company invited me to play Dungeons and Dragons with them. I figured since I already worked out and there was nothing to do with this weather, why not. I had never played it before, and never played it again, but I had fun. We had a crew of a Paladin, a giant dwarf, a middle-aged Japanese businessman who fell into a toilet wormhole, and a sentient bike. The thing was that we had fun, and a lot of it. We had a good game master and let the dice rolls control our fate. What I believe might be lacking here is the lack of creative freedom. That is unfortunately the nature of the site with it being based off Naruto, but why not extend those borders a little bit?
If someone wants to be something like a shinigami from Bleach, a mage from Fairy Tale, or a lizardman like Reptile from Mortal Kombat, why not let them? So long as they apply the Naruto rules, it should be alright. Example, the mages from FT. Each one has a gimmick, and can't really do much else besides that gimmick. If they follow those same rules and don't do a myriad of abilities, why wouldn't that be fair? If they chose to not have chakra and just use magic, then they close themselves off to the ability to use ninja skills. So long as characters aren't running around spraying Spirit Bombs everywhere, why not let people RP as what they want to RP as instead of restricting them. That might also help keep the newer players from leaving and make them feel more welcome when RPing.

That's the end of my rant. TL;DR, Game's stale. Forums are a mess. RP is too restricted. We need more people to come here and join in the game. Have more activity from the person in charge through MotDs. Let more creative freedom be allowed. We need to make the game more fun.

You clearly are fairly fresh if you think this all to be true.

We have a wide plethora of people who are all kinds of crazies. Thing is, when you talk about "stale" is the fact that most RP doesn't go on in the main boards. Mostly, they've all become privatized either in PMs, clan halls, or dwellings.

As for the MotD, pretty sure that only Neji (site owner) can do anything about that.

As for forums, they are intoduced all the time and when more people's opinions are needed, links to the specific threads are posted on the boards. Most of the time, people just read the threads but have no comment. Mostly, the forum is used a political gathering.

Other than that, the only real restrictions are on the jinchūriki and Claimed List from the wikia page. Besides those two entities, people are free to do whatever they want. Needless to say, that doesn't always mean people will play along with other people. And that's just how the human race is.

True or not, I'm just telling you how it looks from my perspective. And Wikia page? Where is that? I had no idea that this exists. Because the SL wiki doesn't really seem to contain much information especially considering I can't even see the last update on it. And I know people don't always play nice together, that's especially true where I work. People from all sorts of backgrounds lumped together and are expected to work together.
If someone wants to RP that they're evil. Go right ahead, have fun. Someone wants to RP that they're good. Go right ahead, have fun. Someone wants to go ahead and RP that they're a dancing alien. Go right ahead, have fun. But don't deny someone the ability to join in the RP world just because they're not exactly 'canon' to the Narutoverse. I know we have plenty of demons and cat-girls already. Why not have more variety as long as it's not extreme and annoying like Title Somebody uses a spirit bomb to destroy Konoha and then flies off to Kiri to pick up the city and throw it into the ocean. I can agree to ignore crap like that.

Again, I strongly reiterate the point that any player can create any character.

That's the freedom of this game.
There are NO rules to that at all. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

It does, however, affect how some people will RP with you or even acknowledge you. Again, that's just the human factor.

www.narutoprofile.wikia.com is the site that a lot is users use to create webpages for their characters. It also contains a pretty extensive list of essential knowledge for the realm.

And yes, it is known about by the main portion of the realm. And if it isn't, it isn't hard to find as most village clans have links somewhere. And most players have it as their personal website.

Shinobilegends Role-play has no all encompassing rules other than the ones set out by Neji. Groups of RPers have thier own perceptions on how RP should be done, so that's where the "no bleach stuff" and "resets only" sort of things come in at. It's a group thing really.

What I am thinking that you are saying from what I'm gathering is that it would be better for there not to be such cliques about the site. My only response is that the only way for that to work would be to remove "official" RP as it currently exists. Already there is discussion on removing "official biju", but I think one regarding "official RP" would be difficult because of things like narutoprofile and the fact that established lists of Kages and sword holders and such would make it difficult to scrap having a uniform line of RP that people are following.

Anything outside of the direct SL media is dependent upon who you RP with as far as exposure. Just a new guy going about the site is very unlikely to quickly pick up on all the outside locations that are associated with this site. There are many SL users who use narutoprofile wikia, and many who partiicpat in the forum, but I think "majority" is a bit of a stretch, even for Wikia.

MoTD's are indeed handled by Neji and Neji alone, so unless he were to give someone high up like Ace the power to mess with that, it would be his sole responsibility to update the MoTD for the entire site. And considering how busy he is between coding, RL, and this site, adding a weekly MoTD for encouragement would be quite the burden to put on him.

Motds are restricted to Neji, possibly Ace and or Gyururu? Dunno of latter two. Forums in turn, if you think SL is bad then you haven't seen anything yet >_>; this place is like a kindergarden comparing to another site I'm a mod on.

As for RP, hardly stale, its a fair deal more active right now than it has been in a long while...in some villages anyway. Either way, if anything it might be you that has far too high standards, because more than once did I see you post going 'oh everything stopped, I'ma leave' when nobody immediately posted again in 10-30 minutes. Not everybody can always be online all at once, so larger events such as the suna earthquake -assuming even a vague semblance of a posting order is followed- can take from some hours to a day to pass a round. Quite normal really.

What comes to not accepting "non-naruto" material, as aforementioned its largely just bijuu fight voids from people, rest just silliness. Like really? Some of the people sporting the 'naruto or gtfo' rule themselves utilize completely alien stuff themselves, such as being a demon something, vampire this werewolf that, completely obscure kgs, yada yada.

The way I personally like to go about those things is if it converts plausibly to naruto terms, isn't all out broken, I'm fine with it. Myself for example? I've a hollow so Warren is kind of a pseudo-vizard in a sense. Rather than a fallen soul utilizing reiatsu however, I made it a largely chakra utilizing youkai instead as per to japanese lore; a twisted human fallen so far they became an evil spirit, kind of like how most if not all of the bijuu were originally thought to be.

I think you're right about that. My standards were set too high and I expected a much more lively community. And I didn't know about the several day issues going on when I first came here, but I'm starting to understand it. It just makes time in the RP sense confusing because it's hard to tell the day/night cycle.

Also, it's nice to see the clarification from the more well-known players that the Ninja-only rule isn't enforced by a lot of people. It allows for more creative freedom that way, I believe. And I will have to make a page on that wikia when I get home then. Hopefully some fun comes out of it.

Unless it's pertaining to the plot, people have a tendency to omit whether it is day or night while they are posting. Whether that resulted or was a cause of the confusing day/night distinguishment is up for debate.

Did anyone say Welcome?

It is always exciting for me to see new faces and hear what people think.

The speed of RP is so unpredictable. I know right now the holiday break is over and people are going back to school/college so get busy. And it is flue season so some are ill.

On SL...left side bar of options in the village board...
If you go into...the preferences tab...game behavior preferences...you can select to set your timestamps in commentary to relative time and it then will list the amount of time it has been since someone posted a comment in the boards....like this found in Kumo...

(2d3h) [Senpai 玉][Master 主君]<火> Uchiha Kamui

(20h10m) <|雲|> 六代目雲影 Koji @%$!s his head

Goodness Koji! Do you kiss your momma with that mouth????

hope that helps some.

But RP time? what a mess. It might take me and Warren 14 days to rp 3 hours worth of action....while Eric and Mushizo post of 3 days in 2 RL hours. And then if Mushizo tries to meet Warren or I in RP....he has to time travel to the past!
lol
which no one does.

We just wing it the best we can.

I have non-canon characters. And if some people won't rp with me because it doesn't fit their story line, there are others who will. There is room for all of us here.

No, no one really welcomed me besides you when I started posting in Suna. And I made sure to turn on that in preferences when I realized nothing new was posted over the course of a day. I've started to get a hang of the post frequency now, and understand that we all have lives. My classes start up next week plus I work full time in an ER. And winging it sounds like a good plan.

Welcome, and dunno. The forums way old so its most likely BBcode, but the smilies I imagine are a custom module installed by hand.
