Rise of a Phoenix: Trial by fire.
« on: January 25, 2016, 04:12:50 AM »

Masane stood upon the hard, dry clay of the land as the intense heat radiated from its surface. The constantly crimson sky held thick, ominous clouds that cast huge shadowed patches scattered about the barren land. This land had no name, at least that she knew of. She referred to it simply as the land of the Phoenix. This land was inaccessible to those "unworthy" to the fiery bird.
Unlike earth, this place seemed to be one gigantic mountain range. There were no forrest (that she knew of) or rivers. Though, the Phoenix managed to obtain water. How they did it was beyond her. It did not really matter to her so she never questioned it. The thought of exploring any further than she had to was dismissed due to the intense, sweltering heat brought about by the planets two suns. Masa was conditioned for the heat of certain areas of this land, not all.
The trial she was about to guide the newest initiate through would prove to be near impossible to endure. Its a constant task to stay hydrated in these conditions. With temperatures remaining above 180 degrees  the least, dehydration was a sure thing.

Masane spent much of her adult life here learning the way of the Sage. The girl was not big on taking on students but her very own phoenix had taken a liking to a young Nara. As did several others such as Akuma, a senior ranking fire bird who had a deep disgust for most things. With this Masane was rather interested in passing down the flames of these mighty creatures. The young Nara had learned the incineration technique rather quickly which helped with his resistance to the intense heat. Having chosen and cared for his egg, the time had come for the egg to hatch. The baby ember would need the chakra from a fire stone, located only at the top of a mighty mountain that stood higher that any other as far as the eye could see.

Masane stood waiting for Jay, and one of her predecessors, the original summoner of these powerful birds. She decided to tag along with him as he takes his bird on his journey. Being recently revived, she figured that said predecessor would like to knock the rust off so she asked him to join them on the hellish trek up the massive mountain.

The Nara made his way towards the prescribed destination. His pace was relaxed, each of his footsteps would kick up a very small cloud of dirt and embers from the scorched wasteland. The egg was nestled in his arms, holding it like a baby. He didn't think he's even set it down since obtaining the precious and newest generation to the Phoenix.

Despite having been bathe in the flames of Fractus the Phoenix King quite some time ago, he had yet to fully restore his frame in a proper set of clothing. Of course, such a thing was of little importance to the physically fit individual. He rather enjoyed having his muscular frame on display, his tattoos/seals included. But from what he knew, he was around the 3rd quarter of this process and would simply need to care for the adorable little egg like a mama bird, sans sitting on it of course. With that in mind, he had unsealed a simple pair of shorts, baggy and around an inch or so below his knees.

Of course, being an even six feet tall with long raven black hair that reached the middle of his back, would make him rather easy to spot in such a lit up area. Obviously the Manji Leader made no effort in concealing his presence, other than the unconscious and completely passive nature to lower his signature to that found in a young child. He didn't even think how opposite this was to his sensei who just let the faucet on, letting the world know how much chakra he had. His crimson hues, his Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan on display, switched between the egg and the pseudo road ahead of him. He spotted the woman in the distance and smiled, his bare feet moving just a tad quicker on the searing hot ground. It would be obvious to whoever saw, that he had perfectly adapted to the world. "That's the mountain." He more than stated than questioned, sensing great power from the mountain.

"Yeah. Up there is a lot worse than down here. This world has a much stronger flow of nature energy than ours. As a result there are strange anomalies all over this place." She stood staring at the large mountain remembering the strange things she saw on her hike upward. And she did it alone. "We should go. The baby won't be able to utilize flames without the chakra from a fire stone. A Pheonix cannot last without that chakra."

Her Mind's Eye activated and she searched for Tsuyo. There was no sign of him, nor Fractus. It was not unlike him to have gotten carried away with some other task. In any case, they could not afford to wait any longer. He knew the way should he need to catch up. "Tsuyo must be busy we can't wait." She mumbled to herself as she began walking down the path leading to the mountain. She motion for him to follow.

"You seem to be getting use to the atmosphere here. Thats good. I assume this will be easier for you due to your affinity for Hyouton. And you have me. I had to do this all alone. She said cheerfully. Having only one water style jutsu, that justu being Water Release: Water mirror, Masane had to find other ways to fend of the "guardians" of the summit. "Should be a really smooth trip. Should be.

She knew that for the most part things would be easy, but at the same time if the "spirit of the mountain" emerges, it would be one of the worst things to occure. With hopes of avoiding this Masane's pace quickened. She was ready to be done here and see her friend with his phoenix.

He watched her for the time being, a bit confused about who exactly they were waiting for. The name Tsuyo had barely been heard, but he was unaware of who exactly this man was. It wasn't the first time he's heard though. The Nara had to really rack his mind for who last spoke this name. His feet unconsciously moved forward, following the woman towards the mountain.

He faintly recognized the tone the woman spoke with concerning the trip and knew that it had the possibility of becoming rather dangerous to his and even the egg's health... and her's of course. He didn't really worry about her, since she knew what lied ahead and has obviously survived her own encounter up the mountain. His shadow, grew darker under his feet and a clone ascended into creation, and the clone was soon handed the egg.

"The egg can't hatch without the chakra from the fire stone, or it needs to feed off of the chakra like milk from a mama?" The words slipped from his lips without much thought to the words. But, to him, it did make a bit of sense. Why else would this journey be necessary? The duo of Nara followed the woman, the original once again racking his mind about the name, only to remember that Machina had spoken it once or twice. 'Wasn't that her husband?' He thought to himself as he looked ahead of him towards the fiery peak of the mountain.

As they moved closer to the mountain the heat grew more intense. Large rock formations loomed in the distance. The rock faces formed a ring around the mountain's base. Her eyes narrowed as they scanned the horizon. "It will hatch soon. Once it does, it will need to absorb the chakra. If not it will die. So it's best to get there before it hatches." She paused at his mention of Machina. She had not thought much of her sister in a while. "Yeah. But from the records she left me, I wouldn't say she was a good wife." She stated blankly.

Her nose twitched a bit and her body froze for a brief second before her pace quickened. She had not even realized that they had entered a dangerous territory.
"That didn't take long. We are about to run into trouble. Stay alert." The girl began leaping from one large rock to the other racing toward the mountain. Her right hand moved into the pouch on her hip. The mouth in her palm devoured the clay inside as she worked her chakra into the earthen substance.

Just 40 yards from their position a humanoid figure moved behind one of the large rocks. Masane spotted the being and used her left hand to point the thing out.
"Over there. It's a scout. We need to deal with it before it alerts the others if it has not already." She stopped on one of the large boulders facing the direction of the creature and pulled her right hand from her cloak.

"Stay on the path. I'll handle this." She turned her right palm to the sky and from the mouth emerged a demonic clay statue. The body resembled that of her Sphinx while the head took a more devilish look. The clay construction stood about knee high and soon took flight toward the scout.

Having paid close attention to his prey, the scout would notice her initiate her attack. As her doll moved in, the creature dove underground as if it were second nature. Her demonic doll crashed a few feet from where her target once stood. Upon impact the doll would explode releasing a thick purple cloud that would cover 30 yards in a matter of seconds. The beast was clever and remained hidden fie the time being. Masane crouched upon the rock and waited for any sign of her target.

The thought of his unborn companion kicking the preverbal bucket before they could spend time together rocked him to the core. He let it go straight to his head and gave the clone a mental command to pick up the pace, the clone having been trailing behind them, allowing them to deal with any danger. And boy did danger make an appearance. The sight of the large creature caused his heart to race, but not in fear, he never really felt fear these days, only excitement. But the clone did worry about the egg and with a mental command, large black raven wings burst from his shoulder blades. It took an initial takeoff stance before jumping while simultaneously releasing a large flap from his wings.

Jay felt this happening behind him, just from feeling the wind and knew that it would be safe above them, while this fiery creature dug into the ground. He remained still as he watched Masane chase it into the ground. He didn't bother moving for the moment, choosing to simply become synced with the Nature around him. Seeing as this was considered another plane of existence with nothing but Nature Energy as a source of energy, it would be heavily obvious that to sense any danger ahead of him, he would need to be in Sage Mode.

Fortunately, for him, they were literally surrounded by the thick energy and gathering it had been rather simple, but the effects of his transformation didn't immediately work as he searched for the scout, a bit intrigued as he wondered if he'd be able to copy it's form in a similar way he did with regular animals. Even if it resembled a human, in structure of course, but it wasn't. But he wasn't able to do this with the specters from the Shadow Dimension, so it might not work here. Although he was mentally peeved, it wouldn't stop him from attempting the next time he saw the creature.

These beasts utilized the ground here in order to move quickly and cover large distances. They also liked to hide. These things rarely engaged their prey alone. Masane knew that it would only be a matter of time before they were swarmed by these things. She clapped her hands together and molded her chakra. Her palms slammed to the ground and in that instant the rocky surface before her slpit. By using Earth Flow Divide she aimed to rob her target of it's cover. She learned how to sense these creatures without having to enter Sage mode and she would not give the fiery monster the chance to flee.

The ground around the beast would separate leaving the creature to face a deadly free fall deeper into the planet. Masane acted with amazing speed. The girl dove into the newly created canyon as her left hand held up the seal of confrontation while in her right formed a large Rasengan. Said Rasengan was forged with Bakuton chakra. She was dead set on blowing this thing to bits and burying the remains with the canyon she created. As she plunged her paper wings emerged and she used them to push herself into the canyon in order to reach her target faster.

With a crazed and enraged war cry Masane aimed the explosive Rasengan at the beast and upon contact, the Rasengan  would explode. The beast would be destroyed along with the canyon. The explosion was epic and as the ground gave way it would seem as though Masane had buried herself along with the beast. She utilized her paper ninjutsu and turned her body into countless sheets of paper. The paper flew upward maneuvering through the falling debris.

The sheets reformed her body just a few feet away from Jay. She stood perfectly still as she focused on the area. They were lucky this time. This scout was alone and she had succeeded in stopping it from alerting the others. Though her explosion may have done just that.

"Let's go before the others arrive."

The man watched as she chased the creature even still, it was obvious she was hellbent on preventing it from escaping. He thought that it was a drag for it to be destroyed in such a way. But it was obvious that he might have been underestimating it's power, or overestimating his own. Whatever the case may be, he'd return here in time to face the creatures on his own.

He watched as the woman reformed a few feet away from him and smiled softly. "Sure thing. Lead the way Masa."

(Was informed to continue alone)

Not a second after the woman in front of him began to walk on ahead, she was overcome by a shroud of light. He cringed from the suddenness of the light and lifted his left arm to shield his eyes. He looked on in surprise, his gaze traveling along the entirety of the area around him, searching for a trace of his companion. "What the hell was that??" He exclaimed quite loudly in his surprise.

His surprise didn't last any longer as realization dawned on him. He was alone in an extremely hostile area, not to mention the entirety of the dimension was just as difficult. This was unlike the time he spent in the Shadow Dimension, seeing as he had always had a way out if things got too dicey for him. Now, his only way out was completing his objective and getting the chakra from this fire stone into this phoenix.

He turned his attention up towards the airborne figure of his clone. "Let's pick up the pace, head straight for the mountain!" He gave his command, watching as the clone's wings began to flap with more ferocity as he dipped forward and flew off towards the fiery mountain. He followed under the clone, making sure he kept his eyes on the clone and his path ahead. It might be more quicker to simply ascend alongside his clone, but he felt that if things got real, he'd be able to draw attention towards him. If such a thing happened, his clone would still be able to give the egg what it needed.

His suspicions were spot on as Masane's earlier explosive finish had attracted the attention they both knew were on its way. Luckily, for the Nara, it was only half a dozen and they were completely behind him. Unfortunately though, as he turned his head to make this revelation, a much bigger monsters made an appearance directly in front of him.

The fact that he came up to the demonic goat colossus' big toe, only proved just how dangerous it was. The rock that it launched up caused his clone to take evasive maneuvers before it was literally face to face with the face of the fiery monster. The clone, doing what it felt was the only possible option presented to him. With a quick gathering of the Nature Chakra around him towards the palm of his free hand, he converted it to ice chakra and released a duo of pulses just as his palm connected with the nose.

As the entirety of the monster's head froze over(1), the clone flapped his wings towards the beast to ascend just over it to continue its flight back towards the mountain. Unfortunately, by the time the clone got just above the head, the ice melted away as the beast let out a monstrous roar that shook the very air with buffering winds.

With the colossus practically unfazed by his clone's attack, Jay knew he would have to distract it long enough for his clone to get the egg to the mountain, which seemed to not be getting any closer with all of these obstacles. As the monster roared, it turned it's attention towards the airborne Nara.

Jay knew this wasn't the time to be idle and coursed pure chakra through his legs and pushed himself up with a powerful jump. With the sheer height difference, he had only managed to reach the thigh portion of the beast. It was more than enough for his next move. With the vast amount of Nature Energy around them, it was child's play to will it to his command. With a taste of his own Dark Chakra mixed in with it, he swung his arm towards the thigh. With the swing, he created a Chaotic force of wind that contained thousands of wind blades(1) that tore into the entirety of the thigh in front of him.

The thigh released gallons of searing hot lava-like blood as the wind blades spiraled around the flesh. The beast let out another roar, this one full of pain as it's knee buckled from the sudden infliction of pain. As it reared it's head back to look towards the falling Nara, it swung it's hand with tremendous speed. Jay only noticed the sharp claws heading his way. Surprise gripped him as he barely had time to contort his frame horizontally in an effort to dodge the claws.

Though he managed to do this, his body was still smacked by the palm and sent straight into the ground, a deep crater being formed cause of the sheer force that had been used.

His clone, completely in the clear, sped its way towards the peak of the mountain. At the speed he was flying, he and the egg would reach it in a matter of moments...

The man groaned as he pulled himself from the crater his body had created from the goat thing's swipe. He didn't even get to stagger to his feet before the colossus reached down with it's spiky claws, moving quickly, as it attempted to grind the Nara into paste. But of course, the Nara managed to throw himself out of the reach of the very large and insanely sharp clawed palm.

The camera shifted towards the clone as it found itself nearing the insanely hot peak of the fiery volcano, which seemed to be in near constant eruption, with very short intervals between. Of course, this only seemed to merit the asinine amount of dehydration one could go through being in this world. Even though he was a clone, it was taking so much willpower to press on forward and search for this stone.

Back to the original, Jay was back to his feet and was literally in the process of evading exploding fire bombs the more size friendly creatures were throwing his way. He hadn't forgotten about them, but they were serving their purpose of being comparable to the annoying henchmen the big boss continued sending during said boss fight. He was lucky the colossus didn't have some sort of move that could one-hit KO him and force him to reset the game before it autosaved his crippling defeat. >.>

The clone, now being forced to use the incineration technique to lessen his ever growing fatigue, he was searching quickly for the egg was beginning to move around in his arms. The phoenix was beginning to hatch and finding the stone was becoming a race against time. He knew about the stipulation and he quickly berated himself for allowing his anxiety to turn the fear volume up on his brain knob. He stopped, and simply searched for the chakra that resided in the stone. At that moment, the volcano stopped for it's periodic rest. This was enough time for him to pinpoint the stone was in the air, the volcano acting as its pedestal. Surely a mystical stone indeed, but was it supposed to be removed? The clone didn't know the answer to this question, but was wary of any Indiana Jones like traps that could be set off. Because he didn't want to have to fight a monster made of pure lava. He'd take the hard, and very hot, skin of that goat thing back there any day.

Speaking of which, was thankfully giving all of it's attention towards the original Nara. Unfortunately, said Nara was quickly learning that things in this fiery dimension can obviously breath fire. He had to learn this the hard way, when the Greatest of All Goats, let out a piercing roar that was accompanied with searing hot flames. His decent, but still far from perfect incineration technique barely saved him from flames. He wasn't even given a chance to replenish his Nature Armor with the necessary Nature Energy to function at it's maximum capabilities. Such was how intense the fight was. Thankfully, he was down to three scouts, so all he needed to do was stay on top of his toes and hope the goat didn't cause a miniature volcano to form right at his position...

The cloned Nara continued to watch the stone as it floated above the mouth of the molting hot volcano, only just now noticing its vibrations. His Choku Tomoe Sharingan looked closely as the lava once again spewed upwards, nearly instantly surrounding the airborne stone. Miraculously, the blobs of lava rolling down the super heated earthen mountainside, flowing like a mad river, clung to the multitude of stones that was scattered along said mountainside. The stones, varying in sizes, were fed the same energy from the stone, as if it were siphoning it straight from the lava.

The answer to his earlier question was presented itself in the most simplest way. If someone was to remove the stone above, the fire stones below would lose the source of their energy. But was the stone simply a medium for the transfer of energy, or did it come directly from the lava? Being the hottest substance on the world, perhaps rivaling that of Fractus' flames, or Son Goku's own source of lava, it wouldn't be too far from the answer he already had in mind.

The clone was soon brought back to his senses, when a plume of ash and embers surrounded his position. He covered his mouth and nose with the crook of his free arm and proceeded to maneuver around, evading the falling embers and toxic chemicals in the cloud of charcoal colored smoke. Dehydration was finally beginning to take its toll on the clone, that along with the cracking of the egg, informed the clone that he didn't have much time left on the clock.

If the clone was feeling the effects of the dehydration, the original Nara was definitely feeling the effects as well. His Incineration Technique wasn't helping his case as it was before, he was dying of thirst, that may or may not be a metaphor to his current situation. But, much like his Nature Energy situation, unsealing a bottle of water was incredibly risky. With the unsurprisingly dry air and intense heat, creating water was completely impossible. The option of using the last reserves of his stored water, from inside of him, was redundant.

Thinking further on the matter was impeded when a giant hand was ferociously occupying his previous position. Said hand had created a rather deep crevice in the ground from the force of the attack. Jay, running on his last legs, moved swiftly, his entire frame covered in electricity. A moment in weakness, found in every boss fight, for some reason, and the Nara had a devilish idea. "This better work." He muttered to himself as he rushed his previous position, while the colossus attempted to pry its hand from the ground.

With lightning coursing through his muscles and his mind set on the task at hand, he rushed up the giant arm, moving entirely too fast for the scouts to halt his progression. While generally not how he would usually do things, once he hit the shoulder, the flow of lightning vanished from his system and he stomped on it with incredible power, leaping the very top of the crouched colossus.

Said colossus, wasn't idle as the ground glowed around its hand before ripping it from the searing hot earth. Clay fragments, burst from the pull, attempting to cut into it's face, but proved fruitless as they bounced off. It's hand, moving faster than before attempting to squash his frame at the top of his head, in a fashion reminiscent of somebody squatting at a fly.

The Nara, fully aware of this, drew on the immediate Nature Energy around his hand. Much like his clone had done beforehand, it rushed towards his hand causing the entire hand to vibrate from the sheer amount of energy that filled it in such a short amount of time. In any case, once his hand pressed against the top of the horned head, the energy rushed down in a similar fashion before. The energy, still in the process of rushing outwards, exploded(1) from his palm.

The explosion, filled the area, rushing downwards and causing a crater from the immense power of the Nature Energy that composed the attack. The force of the explosion rushed outwards in a tsunami like fashion, knocking back the scouts, seriously maiming them, stretching out seventy meters. Despite the design of the technique, the Nara was launched higher into the air, composing himself with his flight technique, his frame slightly charred from the attack, but his natural healing factor was bringing the color back to his skin.

Below him, the colossus was kneeling in the midst of the smoke and debris, before it began to move, falling closer to the ground. The crash that resulted gave the Nara a sense that it had been defeated. But the fact that he could still sense its ferocious energy filled him with a sense of excitement. "Almost, but I'm not staying here to face it's wrath." He thought out loud, rushing through the air, towards the mountain, unsealing that previously mentioned bottle of water and draining it's contents in seconds.

The cloned Nara moved quickly as the egg developed the biggest crack so far. He knew he was seconds away from meeting the phoenix inside and dove down to the biggest rock he could see. It was convenient that the lava didn't completely cover it like it was doing with the rocks much smaller than it. Thus by the time he landed on it, the top of the egg popped off and the head of the phoenix lifted up. It looked every much like a baby bird would, but it looked as dry the clay wasteland. It shakily turned his head from the left to the right, before landing on the original Nara coming towards them, as if knowing the difference between the men.

The man looked on in surprise and mild disappointment that he hadn't been there as soon as it hatched. The bird must have sensed him, because he was looking right in his direction even before he got within the range of the erupting volcano. He had no idea what was happening or why his clone hadn't fed the chakra to the phoenix yet. 'What is he waiting for?' He thought to himself as he increased his speed and came to an abrupt stop a few seconds later, directly in front of them.

In that single moment, it was as if instincts took him over, because images flashed in his mind. It was as if they were instructions the phoenix was feeding directly to his mind and he trusted the baby bird's survival instincts. He relayed this to the clone with a simple look and the egg was given to him. As the clone dispelled, he sat cross legged on the rock, his incineration technique returned in renewed vigor as he gathered the surrounding nature energy. He moved slowly, lifting the egg diagonally above him as if he was presenting an offering to a God.

He took a few deep breaths before using his body as a conduit for the energy directly below him to surge into the bird above him. As he did this, the rock lost the sheen it gained from being filled with the energy of the fire stone and the flames of his incineration technique surged around the egg. Now it seemed as if he was holding a ball of fire. Because of the intense brightness of the chakra, he was forced to squint his ashen/crimson eyes.

Moments passed, he didn't know the actual time frame, but when the process seemed to reach its climax, the bird inside shot up like lava from a volcano. Once it reached the apex of its ascent, it spread it's small baby wings and pushed the excess flames away. The sight of the bird, covered in fire, filled him with a sense of pride. He stood to his feet as the small bird descended down to his outstretched arm. "There you are, welcome to the world. I wonder what I'll call you." With that in mind, the gender of the bird came to mind and it hit him when the bird looked at him with bright fiery eyes. "You don't say huh. Alright, let's go home... Aurora."

She let out a soft baby screech, as the Nara ascended from the rock as it begun to be refill with the chakra of the fire stone. Though without a legit way to leave this stifling hot world as a phoenix summoner, he had to thank his sensei for gifting him with the space-time technique of the Hiraishin, otherwise, he'd be stuck here until Masane decided to return.

Honestly, he had no idea when that'd be, but it mattered not because he was finished. He'd find some way to return and he'd finish that fight with the more than angry colossus. Who at this moment let out a roar so loud that it made the volcano rumble. "That's our cue to get the f*** up outta here. Hang on tight." He gave the phoenix a warning, before the two vanished in a flash of white light, to no doubt reappear in one of his safe houses in the Shinobi Realm.
